Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Hello Everyone!
I'm new to anxiety and panic attacks (3 weeks). I've been to see a therapist a couple of days ago. She informed me that my number one issue is I'm exhausted (I have a new baby). Also there is some lingering post-partum anxiety. Since seeing the therapist I have been able to thwart my panic attacks by journaling, breathing exercises and movement. Up until two nights ago, every time I doze off I would wake up gasping for air. I thought I was on a better path but last night I couldn't even doze off. I received a phone call at 5 am this morning that a close relative had passed on. Once again all of my anxiety came flooding in. At 8 AM I dozed off, I woke up at 8:40 I was not breathing it took a few seconds to catch my breath and now I'm scared to fall asleep. Has anyone had any similar sleep issues? If so, how did you get past it?

I seldom recommend medication BUT with your post-partum and the trauma of losing a close relative, I believe a course of meds to get you through all of this would be fine. (If you are not breast-feeding your new baby, that is.)
I think it's important that you get some "me" time as well. By that I mean, time just for yourself with no one else being dependent on you, even if it's just lying on the bed watching TV.
And I always recommend my favorite anxiety resource, The Anxiety Guy. Look him up and follow him on social media. He has tons of podcasts and youtube videos about anxiety. He will also answer emails.
There's a lot of sleeping apps but I understand that you have a new baby and maybe can't take the time to investigate or be out of earshot from the little one.
It's not something you want to hear at this moment, but time itself will help you also.
Good luck!
That's when those few moments of resting the eyes does make a difference, so you can think and do clearly for a few more tasks, then rest again.
Grief is many stages. Take time to grieve and cry. It will help you relax and refresh.
Best wishes as you find your better balance.
You are already using some of my most important tools which I use to manage my own lifelong anxiety issues. Reaching out here is among those tools. The moral support of people who have the insider perspectives of what I am going through helps me feel less alone and continually offers new tools and/or reminds me of old tools I have let slide.
The only tool I feel inclined to add is to be gentle with yourself and patient with the process. Anxiety and grief seldom come with quick fixes. Appreciate the fullness of time. Easy does it. Keep us posted. Sharing the load really does make it easier to carry.
Welcome aboard.
