Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. A week ago I was going through the beginning stages of a panic attack. This would have been my third episode during a shift and they mostly occur before the end of a shift, so it was easy for me to take a moment in the back and collect myself and be back on the floor helping customers.
I did this during one shift and when it became 20min to half hour going back and forth I knew that my performance wasn't going to be 100%
I pulled one of the supervisors aside and told them my anxiety was in the way of my duties and was hoping to sit for a bit longer. They were completely understanding of my stress and offered me to sit for as long as needed or go home for the day. Now that they are aware, I worry about me being dependent enough for them...
It took me completely by surprise...I even took it a step further and asked for a mental day off and it was accepted. Never would have expected such a response...
I don't want to use my mental health as an excuse to get days off. In fact, I prefer working as it has helped me with my people skills tremendously. I am glad to have found the courage to speak up...even if it still feels foreign to me.
Thanks for reading :)

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

Even when I am flying solo, it be an fuzzy and ever-moving line between realistic self-care and using my mental illness as an excuse to get out of responsibility. The courage to speak freely helps allot in figuring out where that sneaky line is in any given moment of need. When I am coordinating my personal needs within a team effort, those moments of need come up frequently.
Congrats on finding the courage to speak up. May that courage lead you healing places.
Sounds like you have some people that are understanding and sympathetic to your needs.
I guess there are some people out there that get it.
Take good care and have a nice holiday.
