Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I had a bout with OCD when I was around 15. One night, I broke the spell by basically saying fuck it. Nothing bad happened to anyone after all. Fast forward to age 19, OCD hit me during my first dating experience. I have been hospitalized twice although there were other times I needed to be. Last year was really rough and the nurse practitioner suggested I go into therapy. I think I started in August or September. During one session, my therapist asked how I am affected by OCD. It is so ingrained that I really had to think about it. I am still thinking about it and realizing more and more how it affects me. I am 63 now. That's a lot of years of obsessing and doing rituals or, avoiding. Well, it has worn out its welcome with me. I am ignoring it to the best of my ability. I want to break the spell again. I feel it can be done. I will keep you posted.

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

every case is unique. in my own case, a pretty hard case for which i have received allot of psychotherapy, the harder i try to **just get over it** the more compulsive my obsessing becomes. "compulsive" is the operative word in my own OCD. it comes out of me as naturally and subconsciously as snot on a sneeze. while i'm busy trying to empower my will power, the OCD ticks take advantage of my distracted state to create extra mischief.
awareness of my OCD ticks and the mischief they are causing is much easier when i radically accept them and work on management more than control.
but, repeat, mine is a pretty hard case. i've had OCD ticks for as long as i remember with no breaks between episodes. of course every single one of my therapists have noticed and gone proactive on the psycho tick.
gentle support while you test your own limits.
Best wishes!
Mid, thank you. I am actually going through paperwork today. Some of it is from last summer. I had a big stack of mail on a kitchen chair but my cat knocked it off. Now I am wondering if some of it went in the recycle box. Thanks for the encouragement!
many of my most effective grounding/self soothing tools started out as OCD ticks. they just needed a little bit of training and fine tuning. that little bit of validation went a long way toward making my less productive OCD ticks easier to accept and manage.
