Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
My anxiety comes out at night. I can wake up several times a night with a racing heart that can turn into a full blown panic attack. Sometimes I'm up for hrs and I’m scared to go back to sleep. My worst symptom lately is the shaking. It makes it hard for me to do my breathing which usually calms me down. The shaking can start before bed too since I’m scared to go to sleep. I was prescribed some Ativan. .5 mg so I took some before bed. Right now after a couple hours of sleep I’ve woken up with a racing heart. I took my Ativan 4 hrs ago. Do I take another one? I’ve been told by the pharmacist they last 4-6 hrs. Has Ativan helped anyone sleep. I probably need a bigger dose.

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...
I'm clueless on the Ativan, but I, too, suffer anxiety shakes. When they grow so intense that I can't accomplish the calming effect of my breathing exercises, I use stretching exercises to channel the physical stress far enough that my breathing exercises get easier. If you do well with guided exercises, I've been told my stretching looks allot like Tai Chi and there are tons of guided exercises on Youtube.
Gentle support while you find what works for you. Welcome to the forum.
I take phenergan to help me sleep, it’s over the counter here but I don’t know if it is in the US. I’ve also been prescribed amitrypline which helps with sleep. I hope you find something that works for you. You need your sleep.
Thanks for your advice. I will definitely try the stretching. That makes sense. I haven’t been checked for sleep apnea but I think my husband would have noticed. You say you are on your back when you wake up - so am I. Maybe I’ll try to sleep on my side and see if it helps. This happens 2-3 times a night as soon as I fall asleep I wake up with a racing heart and sometimes a bad dream. I’m scared of medication but finally agreed to take something because I’m exhausted and can’t go on like this.
It’s comforting to know other people are going through the same thing and they are here to support each other.
I use pillows to keep on my side.
Also, write regularly in a journal. It will help you clear your mind.
Best wishes and welcome to anxiety board at DS!
