There are some newer plans and some aimed for seniors. Your state may even have low cost programs for low income seniors.
I am not sure if you will have trouble porting your number since she is the account owner. May have to have her permission to get off the account. You can call Verizon and ask them their rules without joining anything. And whatever plan you chose, ask for the senior discount.
I personally have t-mobile. I have four voice lines, also with home Internet at my dad’s house, plus 3 little trackers… my bill every month is about 240 with taxes… my phone service is the top tier, so unless you really need unlimited data, and 250 gig of hotspot (linking your cell phone and computer/smart tv/laptop and so on) you probably won’t need that high of service.. if it was only my phone lines, no home internet and no gos trackers, my bill would be about $190-ish… still kinda high, but I pay for two voice lines, and I have two voice lines free.. (around $170 plus taxes)
I’ve been into cell phone companies since the 90’s, and have had quite a few of them over the years… I live in the middle of farm country in Ohio, and so Verizon doesn’t cover here, and definitely not at&t…. T-mobile was the best for coverage and speed on my phone… my speed of my internet on my phone is faster than who I have at home… I have seen gig speed on my phone before too…
If you want to save money, look into the mvno companies… they are anyone who isn’t the big three in the USA… so the big three is Verizon, at&t, and t-mobile. The other companies you see that you can get service with like boost, or cricket, or straight talk, or many many others… use the same tower same everything as the big three companies…but they are not high on priority list… so it’s possible to not have a working signal, or try to use your data and it’s throttled (much slower than you can use) because the big three companies have prioritized data.
