Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Hello, DS. I've been trying to find a support group like this for a while, so I'm glad I finally did. I am a person that is prone to depression and anxiety, and ever since COVID, I've been hit with a wirlwind of different emotions because of all the changes that came along with it, not to mention a lot of personal changes as well. Everything hit all at once and it felt like it was all out of order and completely overwhelming that I shut down and closed myself off to my boyfriend, family and friends. We both work(ed) in the service industry which is one of the most effected by all this and I havent been able to get myself back in the workforce. I have a bit of social anxiety and since being in quarentine, it's hightened and made it even more difficult to get myself out there. My boyfriend has been great about adjusting, but I've been struggling, bad. I began seeing a therapist and we also started couples therapy, so that helps a little, but the main issue is that I have limited coping skills and he's not the best communicator and isn't prone to depression like I am so it's hard for him to relate. I guess what I'm asking is has anyone had a similar experience and what have you done to slowly (or quickly) get out of this funk... Thank you all for sharing, and for any and all feed back. XX

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...
You've taken the important first step in writing it out. Keep writing in a private daily journal to help you sort your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and words to find a better balance.
Someone who does not experience heightened awareness of natural anxiety is giving you the best support possible from their perspective.
By working on "you" and "your feelings" independently, you'll find you have far more strength, courage, and understanding of what works and what is not working at the moment.
Practice even breathing, using positive images and words to remind yourself that you are in control of your feelings, your thoughts, your emotions, and your words. You are responsible for what you say, do, react, and respond. You are NOT responsible for what others say, do, react, and respond. By changing your response to fit your well-being, the other's response will change, often worse before it improves. Not your problem, just keep reminding yourself that change is necessary to improve your well-being and get your better balance.
Yup, I've had similar experience, both pre-and-post covid. In my own herstory, I haven't found a way out of the funk. I've had to make peace with the fact that I just be a funky broad. Radical acceptance of my funktitude allows me to channel my available resources into managing the symptoms rather than trying to change the facts of my broken life. I've come to believe that loving self-acceptance is the whole diff between, "Crazy" and "Eccentric."
Gentle support while you find what works for you. Hope you feel safe exploring the possibilities here. Welcome aboard.
@Mid- Great advice. It's something I know I should do to keep moving forward, but it's one thing knowing what you should do and knowing HOW to go about doing it. I guess that's the issue I'm having....it's hard to keep in mind that little progress is still progress. I just have never been the kind of person that can give herself pats on the back. sadly. I'm still working on that. Thank you!
@Thor2008- You're definitely right about that! Fresh air is always good, and it's something that I need to remind myself for when I have days like today where I can barely get up out of bed. thank you!
@arfie- I love your comment! I am working with my therapist to just accept the person I am and to respect that I am "under construction" and that's ok. As long as it's not hurting anyone of course. I guess I am one funky broad, too. haha And I'm glad I'm not alone...thank you!
One of the many psycho ticks to address on my journey from crazy to eccentric. . . Works in progress. Great works of art are never finished. . .
@bh14- Thank you for the kind words. I'm trying hard everyday to trust myself and be open to new ways of coping with anxiety and depression. It is hard to filter and sort them out while FEELING alone, so I'm glad I found this support system because even if it does feel lonely at times, I know I'm not. Breathing is definitely important! It's so easy to discount breathing techniques, so thanks for the reminder. XX
