i can so relate.
i wake up with my heart pounding and a thousand pound weight on my chest.
It does not take long for the "What-If's" to start in my head.
i try to do breathing exercises,i take a lavender and epsom salts bath,have tea,take a prn.
(Although i am guilty of coffee in the morning which probably doesn't help.Refuse to give it up though.)
i am sure others here will be able to help with some coping strategies.

When the sensations start, focus on where you are, be in the moment. Distract the thoughts.

Keeping a pen and paper next to my bed so I can record the wake up anxieties as quickly as possible is one of my coping mechanisms. It helps keep those racing thoughts from escalating into even racier off-shoots. Breathing and stretching can be quite helpful, also.
