Laughter really is good medicine. When I can find gentle, compassionate humor in myself and/or my life circumstances, I always feel one step closer to healing. More and more, I find myself believing that there is only one real mistake I can make in life: Taking ^it^ too seriously. One way or another, Life has a way of working things out to surprising ends.
Thought I'd share today's read from "Meditations for People Who Worry."
Begin quote
Humor is an affirmation of dignity, a declaration of man's sueriority to all that befalls him. ~Romain Gary
That we can still laugh is a testament to us all. Often, it seems, those who have the greatest ability to laugh at themselves are those who have been through the most. Life has softened them up a bit.
How often have we thought of humor as an affirmation of our dignity? When we make a faux pas and everyone around us laughs with us, can we see that as an affirmation of dignity? If not, we're probably taking life and ourselves too seriously.
When someone lovingly teases us about the pie on our tie, can we see that as an affirmation of dignity? If not, we're probably on the verge of becoming terminally serious.
When tension is high and someone cracks a joke, can we see that as affirming human dignity? If not, we are probably a drain on the team.
Humor is multidimensionality briefly squeezed into linear time and space.
Those of us who still take life seriously probably haven't "got" it yet.
End quote
Hm-m-m-m. . . The Bob Dylan song about dignity popped into my head while I typed that out. I didn't notice how often the word appeared in this entry as I simply read it. I've alway thought of dignity as a Social Mask worn by pretentious people. It never occurred to me that you could put "dignity" and "humor" in the same sentence.
Anyhoo. . .
Just sharing. Open discussion.

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

Here's to finding the moment of which can make you smile, grin, and enjoy the experience, and then remember it time and time again to feel the warmth and comfort of laughter shared.
