Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. the countdown is on for the new school year to commence. 4th and 1st grades are gearing up while baby sis settles in for her last year as a stay-at-home kid before she starts pre-k. what's "next year?" she already has her backpack packed and ready to roll. excitement is running high. it all seems to be running smoothly, but it still feels fragile. this morning's read from "the course" by karen casey resonated sweetly for me. thought i'd reinforce the sentiment by sharing.

agitation
our agitation can easily be dissolved.
the tension of agitation exhilarates us on occasion. we may even like the feeling. its outcome seldom satisfies us, however. being at odds with others frequently escalates tension beyond our tolerance level. and then what?
the short-term gratification we may get from cursory agitation doesn't feel good for long. so often we feel stuck with it, but that's never actually the case. we can be free of it instantly. we can just as quickly grab it back, of course.
the challenge of finding a peaceful path seems overwhelming many days. it's intereting that we find it harder to choose peace rather than turmoil. only when we understand how insistent and persistent the ego is about controlling us can we in turn fathom the seriousness of our struggle. the ego never has to win, however. that's up to us.
i will be at peace today if that's my choice.

the gratification of cursory agitation is especially short-lived at ages 9, 6 and 3. some days believing i can simply choose that peaceful path is easier than others.

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
School starting is exciting!! :)
It's full of hope, and here's to a successful moment of peace.
The part about choosing turmoil over peace really resonated with me. Just the other day while meditating I kept finding my mind pulling away thinking about all the other more "exciting" things I could be doing and wondered what that was seemingly more appealing than sitting in stillness. I don't have an answer, but at least now I know the question.
Good luck as you roll towards that new school year.
