Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

I hate the way I've expressed the title as it doesn't do the work they have done with me justice but It is a worry that I have currently at the moment where I'm not getting what I need. I have been with this psychologist since last year and they are also my first therapist which I feel adds to the anxiety as I have no comparison to go from.
They were very helpful for me last year especially with the troubles I have had with parents but I recently have been feeling like I'm not too sure what I'm getting out of going to my therapist. Talking to them has helped work through some emotion but I feel that I haven't progressed that much and I don't really know what I'm aiming for or if we're even aiming for anything.
I admittelty do have that subconcious mindset that I want things to be 'fixed' which I know is illogical but I do feel like something is missing and I'm not sure exactly what.
I have moments with my ADHD where I can rant on about situations and talk too much (which can be cathartic), but I also feel like there are moments where my therapist doesn't talk as much as they possibly could which gives off the impression that they don't know what to do or there is nothing to say.
I respect that therapists are in a position where they help guide you to where you specifically want to be but I do feel like there are gaps missing. Maybe I should talk to them and express my concerns but then my anxiety builds up and I start to think "maybe they want me to constantly be unsure of what I'm doing"
Maybe it's because they're only a psychologist and not a psychiatris? So they cannot provide any kind of technical explinations to things.
One of my big fears posting on here is that I'm told I need to find a new therapist but I'm not even sure If thats what I need right now or what to do.

In my own case, it is hard to quantify who/what is helping how much on a psychic healing journey. Unlike their physical counterparts, psychiatry is an infant science which has no accurate tests to measure by. In my own healing journey, I am still watching seeds planted in my early therapy and have germinated into healing implants, all these years later. Equally, some of the theories I had embraced as healing turned out to be more damaging than helpful, so far, at least. Who knows what the morrow may bring.
I don't have an easy answer for you, but I do know I like to keep my strictly personal therapy pot, both pro and peer, well-stirred and to adjust the recipe when the proverbial pot is giving me psychic indigestion. When I'm uncertain what changes I need to make, I just let the pot simmer and stir often. When the time is right, the best changes will be obvious to me.
I cannot tell you how many times I've left therapist's office and so wanted my money back.
If you are not happy with him or her you can look elsewhere for someone new. Been there and done that.
Hugs.
Have you considered talking openly to your therapist? I know it can be very intimidating but I think that most therapists want to hear about how you feel. Sometimes you experience an impasse where you don't feel like you're getting anywhere but later you break through. A good therapist should be able to hear your concerns and together you can figure out a plan (i.e. change things as they currently are, transfer to another therapist or take a therapy vacation). My understanding is that psychiatrists are medically trained and most only dispense medications. A psychologist is usually highly trained in the mental health field. I wish you the best. If you're really frustrated, I would suggest the above. You could always just stop going or look for someone new while you continue.
So if your not feeling that, maybe it's time to make a change. Think about it. And I hope you find the answer. Good luck. Take good care. Italianmomma4ever
