However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

Are you seeing a therapist, this may help if you talk things out, I also set daily goals ones that you can achieve that day and this helps me.
Just remember, you are here for a reason and you are loved!!
Ooooo I know all to well the feelings you are talking about. Depression and anxiety really really really over time mess with your mind and overall happiness. It makes you feel completely and utterly alone. It greys out your world and leaves you quivering in the fetal position on the floor at the thought...Is this all there is?.....Will I be like this for the rest of my life?
The answer my friend is a resounding NO!!!!
I should clarify ....at one point of my life I was this hopeless helpless depressed and anxious person. I truly felt and was basically told by uneducated professionals that I would never climb out of those horrible feelings. Well thank God I didn't stop trying. I eventually found professional who understood what anxiety was...what I was doing to perpetuate it and how to turn the whole situation around. I was about as bad at one could get BUT guess what.......I didi it.....you can too,
However....Let me clarify again...when I say you can too.... You can BUT...that means you are going to have to make some changes. Just like I was doing.... your current way of acting, reacting and thinking are not helping you....right?
I'm here if you have any questions. I am running a weekly post that explains what I learned and what eventually led me to overcome anxiety and depression. I have been free from the chains of both of these disorders for 5 years now and Ahhhhhhh...let me tell you it didn't take me very long to start seeing BEAUTIFULl COLORS again. You know what I mean if you really have depression...right?
Look for current posts on the anxiety home page saying....how to overcome anxiety.....Week One....Week Two. Those three are the only ones that we have done so far....at this point anyone who still wishes to join us can easy to catch up.
This is all CBT the best way to overcome these conditions.
My best to you!
I don't think though, that I will ever end up in that state again. I think it's like one of those mediaeval quests. Like Lord of the Rings or something. You go travelling in this dark, horrible place... and you face invisible dangers and unbelievable fears, and then if you are brave and strong and determined, and never give up, and never sit down and die, then you travel out of it and come out into the light in a new space, a new location, a new you. Stronger. Brighter. Clearer.
It's a good thing. It's a journey. There is an end to it. There is a reward and a rainbow and a pot of gold. Okay no gold. But lots of reward. People never talk about this, but you become a giant compared to what you were before you fell in. I went through the most appalling hell for 5 years of my life, and I can't, unfortunately, regret a second of it. I'm actually glad. I lost everything: marriage, money, job, life, friends. And yet I'm glad. You'll get there too, you just need to know that there is a goal, there is a result, there is a way to 'win' this one.
