Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

Recently someone I used to go to school with started working at a place that I go to on occasion, and they're someone I kinda liked but was never really close with and haven't talked to or seen in years. After seeing them there for a few times and trying to get over my anxiety enough to ask for their phone number, I managed to do it and felt a lot better for a little bit, I sent them a text later that night and had a short conversation with them. Things seemed to be going alright, although I was being careful trying not to say anything wrong, they stopped responding at one point, and I just figured they'd fallen asleep since it was pretty late. I sent one text the next day asking how they are, but never got a response, and another day went by and still nothing, I haven't sent anymore messages or anything as I just figured they'd seen the text and didn't want to answer for whatever reason.
Now I'm just anxious about seeing them again once I go back to the store that they work at, my friend told me to not even mention the ignored text message or anything and just do business as usual pretty much. I'm just feeling a bit hurt though because working past my anxiety and what not to ask them was hard enough on me, to be ignored is leaving me feeling like giving up trying to connect with anyone... I guess I'm just venting, but it's really leaving me feel confused and a little hurt. Why give your number out in the first place?

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

Carry on business as normal. this person doesn't owe anybody anything, and if they aren't free to text they don't have to text.
You're making too many assumptions about why they did not send a text back the second time. Rather than putting them down or going into hurtville, maybe just put yourself in their shoes for a minute and ask yourself why you might not respond.
Many times I get a text, see it on the fly while I'm working, and forget to reply for ages. I rely on my friends not to assume I'm a douchebag and figure out ways to punish me. If they did that, I would give them the kick.
If you want grownup friends you have to behave like a grownup, and go in knowing you are not top of their list, they have their own lives and their own responsibilities and their own things going on at the other end of that phone. So take what they've got to give, or take nothing.
It is not defined like face-to-face interaction because you're doing the communication through an electronic device.
Anxiety is natural. It is easy to get caught in the moment of checking, double-checking, triple-checking to see if you got a response to your text. Before this technology became common use, we used to have to physically contact the person we wanted to speak with. Now, we can be far away physically and still share communication by text.
Next time you find yourself wondering about the text, consider it a snail mail situation. Sometimes, you get a response, other times, you do not. Nothing personal, just the way the system works. There is no right or wrong way to handle texting that is common use, either. It depends on the level of the relationship what the rule may be in that particular situation.
However, when you apply feelings to the choices, remember that you're only seeing your perspective which may be missing some important detail you are not aware of.
It bothers you, so choose some method that works to get you in the moment. Let the text go off in its own direction, and choose a different method to communicate with this person, if that is what you want to attempt.
Best wishes, you are not alone.
Something I have comforted myself with in the past and still do even with people I am close to when they don't text me back is maybe they just got busy, I don't know what's going on on the other end of their phone or in their life.
Not to be dismissive by saying this, I understand you probably and rightfully do have hurt feelings about this. I would say play it cool, act like it doesn't affect you and just say hi the next time you see them but don't be pushy, people usually don't like that.
I was born in the 70s and remember life before cell phones and the Internet. You know as I think many of us here do that communication used to be very different and it is hard to adjust. I understand.
For casual new acquaintances i have found texting to be better. Some people get nervous when they have to talk on the phone with someone they don't know very well. I know I do.
There will be other people for you to meet that will be more responsive to your texting. Some new friends don't work out. It's sad but true. People also just fall asleep early sometimes and miss texts, there could be a totally normal explanation for this so don't take it too hard if you can.
I always like to be told I'm overreacting, because then i can relax. You started the OP well, but within two posts from others were swayed to the point of saying she was rude and 'if she was going to be like that, she was not the woman for you.'
Now, i consider that bullying. All she has done, is fail to reply to one single text, and you have built her up to be someone you are rejecting because they're not good enough.
I think that's mean. I certainly don't think it's adult.
Sometimes the truth hurts. But that hurt is not the fault of the truth-giver. That hurt is the fault of the mis-belief the person had to start with. That truth was always there. You just didn't perceive it till they said something.
So i guess we have to ask as people roaming the planet, whether we wish to become knowledgeable, or appear knowledgeable. Because we cannot do both. In order to learn, we must first acknowledge that we do not know.
Anxiety is a horror story, I had an attack today. But I didn't blame the person who triggered it. It was my fault, whether they triggered it or not. It was my problem. It would have been EASY to blame that person. But unfair.
And it would have hurt them.
Life's never simple. You always have to travel a mile in the other person's shoes. And you have to not let yourself be boomeranged by what people say to you either, into believing someone is good or bad.
But the thing is, if you are still worried about this and feeling pre-occupied with it, then that is a sure sign that you don't have ENOUGH going on in your life. Those of us with anxiety have minds that do not like to be bored or without drama and negativity. And if you don't keep those minds occupied and focused on something healthy, they are going to be looking for something negative to keep themselves entertained.
I know that you know that this is not a big deal. Listen to what your conscious self is saying and ignore the games your subconscious is trying to play. Every time you start to dwell on this say "nope, not going to do it" and get your mind on something else. And as far as seeing the friend goes...just say hello and chat and forget about the texts. They can only be a big deal if you turn them into one. xoxo
I was just venting as I said because I was quite upset at the time. I'm feeling a bit better now about things as opposed to then. I realize that enough time heals most wounds, suffering from anxiety just makes that time seem like it's endless when in reality things blow over quicker than we seem to notice. Never the less, thanks for all the replies, I think I've figured out where I'm going to go with it from here. hearing multiple people's opinions is always a bit eye opening.
