Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

I'm one of these people who hate to take medicine. I resisted for a long time before I went on blood pressure medicine. I feel like a failure if I can't do it "myself". That's silly because I don't think someone else is a failure because they need medicine. Why do I judge myself so much harsher than I do others? For that matter, why do I feel the need to judge myself at all?
I've resisted anxiety meds since 2003 when I almost became agraphobic. I've had panic attacks since 1991. I have developed tools to help me get out of the anxiety.....most of the time. This past weekend was one of those tough ones, in which my tools didn't work. My blood pressure sky rocketed and I became obsessive about taking it. I must have taken it 20 times this weekend and each time it stayed high. I stayed anxious.
So I made the decision that I'm tired of fighting this on my own. It robs me of so much joy and it seems like it is more and more a part of my life. I called my doctor about the BP and anxiety this morning. She got me in to see her in 90 minutes. She said she thought she didn't need to change my BP medicine and that when the anxiety came under control so would the blood presssure. I was ready to accept the med.
She's putting me on 20mg Celexa to see how that works and we'll adjust it if needed after a month. She warned me that it would take a while for it to kick in fully. I'll pick it up tomorrow and start tomorrow night. As she talked about the action plan, I could feel the anxiety leave my body. As that anxiety left, my body was exhausted. It had fought a fight all weekend long. I came home and took my BP. Guess what? Right back to my normal range.
Sigh....I wish I had made this decision 7 years ago. However, I am so excited about how my life is about to change...for the better. Listening to all of you here talk about how medicine has helped, gave me the confidence to try it also. Thanks for being here!

I actually have a panic attack each time I take a new med :( I also research the heck out of all the side effects and ask people if they are on the same thing or have been. Ugh...
I'm actually to the point of weaning myself off of my meds now...its a good feeling to have my thought process under control. I know meds aren't for everybody but sometimes they do help you get thru the tough spot until you can learn the skills to fight the sensations on your own.
My best to you!
Give it a chance to work, It takes atleast 3 weeks to get into you system.
Good luck!
Keep us posted on your progress:-)
