Too long a story - but in trying to address an issue due to anxiety "what ifs" about it... I end up surely complicating it (instead of just leaving it alone). My day...today...misplaced my debit card...didn't realize it until I got to the register after shopping to a full cart. Used a different debit card and pulled apart everything looking for missing debit card before I left parking lot. Got home, dropped keys. So now I have a missing debit card, missing keys. This might seem a little weird, but the trick which helped me kick the "What if" habit was to declare "I.F." to be an acronym for "Idiot Factor." When I catch myself what-iffing, I remind myself to get the I.F. out of it.

For what it's worth
Meditation, exercise, etc., work well for me as spiritual maintenance tools, but don't seem to have allot of impact on my long established psycho ticks, such as what-iffing, shoulding around, self-abuse, etc. I look for more specialized tools for managing those psycho ticks.
