Honestly I'm to afraid to go to the doctor's office right now. I'm just toughing it out, but keeping in touch with my doctor through emails.

i have to have phone sessions with my pyschiatrist/therapist.
Those therapy silences that make me so uncomfortable when he is sitting across from me are even worse over the phone.
i don't know what to fill the silences with,and it drives me crazy that i can't see his facial expressions.

i find i am losing my train of thought even more than when i see him,and at times it is hard to keep myself from completely dissociating,which as well is worse than when i am in his office with him.

i really need blood work done.

Not at all. The only disruption was surgery on my left shoulder. I have kept all other appts for all my other doctors. So no effect.

Are recently traumatized orphans emotionally the same as normal children? I am glad your children were far more able to adapt, Mid, but these children are not like other children I have loved. My 3 charges have been through considerable trauma in their 6 and fewer years, including medical trauma where masked strangers did unspeakable things to them before disappearing from their lives, entirely.

As I understand the Corona rules, the clinic is required to force the children to enter one door with masked strangers while their one point of consistency in this sea of hurt disappears through another. ^It^ is not boding well with my foster parenting instincts. These children are all suffering attachment disorders which cause them to cling with intense desperation. Grown-ups are not just interchangeable game pieces.

Immunizations, et al, can wait until Global Coronaville finishes defining itself enough to allow children to be more than filthy little bags of germs in the eyes of the proverbial village.

Right now, all health care is being doing by phone initially and rare face-to-face appearances.

If the Grandchildren need medical attention or have to go to a doctor it might be good to discuss the visit beforehand with them. Like talk about them going through one door with a Nurse wearing a Mask and you going through a different door to wait for them. Maybe while you are discussing future Doctor visits with them they could draw, color, paint a doctors office and a nurse wearing a mask and the doctor wearing a mask and you and them also wearing masks. They will see the difference between the past mask strangers and the Doctors office masks.
Also maybe they could design and help make fun masks that they will be wearing.

I had to go in for an epidural. It was interesting because my husband had to wait in the car until the procedure was over and they brought me out to the car. All the nurses and doctors were wearing protective wear. I was very anxious about going there with the virus, but it was ok. Most of my appts have been through televideo with my therapist and physical therapy.

Children can be very resilient. You can make going in an adventure for the children by showing them ahead of time how the medical staff will be dressed and make up a pretend adventure with a reward at the end.

All the social workers are "making creative use of social media." Since the case was in the midst of a departmental shuffle when Corona crowned, the new caseworkers have all had to introduce themselves through digital means. The children, 6 years and under, are not handling social work by social media well, at all.
