Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I have been having anxiety for a few years. I had been an anxious person for a while until I had panic attacks, which felt very real and had chest pain, hard to breathe, etc. Until one night I had palpitations and went to the doctor, and had an ekg, which show I had wpw(heart rhythm abnormality). So this really scared me and I went with my parents and had a catheter ablation surgery. The surgery and time before, were probably one of the scariest times of my life, (which reinforced the panic and anxiety). But anyways, I had the procedure which was very safe, and had a very high success rate. After the surgery, the doctor said everything was great and successful. It's been 2 years since then, and I suffer through a lot of nights worried about my heart. Things like: "what if I have a heart attack", or "what if my condition returned, or I have svt's or a fib". But I have had had palpitations since then during physical activity. But the doctor assured me it's alright, and I started taking anxiety meds, which don't help. Hopefully someone can relate and, or, respond to this with what they think.
thanks.

Health anxiety is not on my personal list of anxieties, but my personal list is long enough to convince me that anxiety is a beast which can grow and multiply on just about anything. Whatever proverbial bone my anxiety is chewing on any given day, no amount of outside reassurance will comfort the beast. Calming those anxieties is an inside job. Nobody can do it for me.
I start with taking the focus from the subject over which I am obsessing and putting the focus on the physical symptoms of my anxiety. Ragged breathing and clenched muscles are my two most consistent physical symptoms of anxiety. When I can regulate my breath and unclench my muscles, the anxiety often eases as a result.
There are as many ways of managing anxiety as there are anxiety sufferers in the world. Gentle support while you find what works for you.
