There is a technique I learned in psychotherapy called, "Reframing." Reframing takes my obsessive thought loops and alters them, one word at a time, into something more functional and easier to set aside so that I can stay on task in the here and now. Songs are one of my favorite reframing tools. In addition to the songs I write myself, I look for other songs on a similar theme which help me reframe and expand the obsessive thought loop.
This very post could be an example of another of my reframing tools. Each time I share the obsessive thought loop within my therapy support network, I say it a bit differently. Feedback from my supporters helps me move the process in directions I might not have found on my own. Journaling aids the process further.
