General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

long story short , a friend of mines (separated for a WHILE now) husband showed up at her house high as hell and beat her to a pulp. i was asked to come stay for the weekend in case the guy bonded out and showed back up. not that im particuarly big or intimidating but shes a friend and she has 3 kids, so i was there asap. weekend rolls by, bonfire with weenies and marshmallows, GOT, spider-man, video games and i had to come home. now the kids all really want me there (one requested i be stepdad, sweetest freaking thing in the world man) but this guy who was supposed to not be getting out, somehow found a way to trade his shit car to bond out, and now the woman and the kids are freaking out and i have no transportation at the moment and no way to make sure they are ok.
and my nerves are getting shot all to hell over what he might do to them.
deep breathes, trying not to take a klonopin but might have to.
thanks for listening

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

So glad you were there for the weekend.
Sometimes, being there to listen is all you can do. They know they have your support, encouragement, and that you'll do what you can, in the circumstances, you are limited to listening at the moment.
These situations happen and it takes a lot of courage, determination, and effort to find a positive resolution when one person wants to be mean, be offensive, be a bully.
I hope you are able to remain calm, knowing that you are listening, too.
Your size is far from the most important support you can offer in situations like that. Just knowing you are not alone in those high stress situations is priceless.
Kudos on your willingness to be there for her but leave your super cape in the closet. We all have limits on how much we can actually help and letting a drowning victim drown the rescuer helps no one. Don't forget your self care.
thank you all so much, thank you. really.
I’m new to this forum and just cane across this post. Tryna_B you are an amazing person for caring for this individual and her children and being there for them. One thing domestic violence can do is leave the victim to feel so isolated! I am an advocate for domestic violence and sexual assault and work in a victim shelter for women. Maybe tell your friend you will be there for her but also finding resources for her like a local women’s shelter or dv agency which usually offer confidential counseling! Again, please be careful as there is nothing more dangerous as an abuser that feels they have nothing to live for. Best of luck - Emma
