Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

Best wishes.
We assign more value to them because they feel like they are "odd" or "strange" or different than the habits other people have. But really, how much more odd is clearing your throat than putting your fingers in your mouth and chewing off the tips?
Its a habit brought on by whatever reason you did it the very first time you did it..maybe a nervous thing..maybe you had something in your throat....it doesn't matter. The point is that now its a habit and if you want to break it...just don't do it anymore.
I know you might be thinking "if I could stop, I would".....but you can. I am somebody who used to have to chew her steak 100 times before swallowing so I get it. I'm not saying it won't feel uncomfortable at first because breaking a habit is always uncomfortable....but try this: When you feel that urge to do it just imagine that urge rising and rising until it feels like you are going to explode....you know that pressure-like sensation that those urges give you?....and wait for it to explode and then of course it won'tt....and then the urge will go away.
At least that trick worked for me a lot with my anxiety habits and its something you can try. good luck to you.
I drink a lot of water, and try very hard to relax and think positive thoughts; however I think Fleurdelisa27 may have hit in, it's a nervous habit that I must change my thinking to overcome.
