Anxiety Support Group

General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

Hello, all. I haven't visited this group for a little while because I was feeling a lot better over the spring and summer. Then, about two months ago, the stuff really hit the fan at my job, which I was really enjoying up until my boss decided to quit and left us high and dry. Her supervisor, who is now overseeing us is incompetent and totally unsupportive.
I think it could be the time of year, too, with the lack of light and holiday stress on top of everything else. Long story short, I'm back in counseling and back on medication. Giving effexor a try this time. Has anyone else taken it?
I was feeling better over the weekend, I think partly because I'm now taking Vitamin D supplements, but coming into work this morning, my anxiety was through the roof. I wish I could quit, or find another job, but there is not much else here and we need the money.

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

You are responsible for how you react. (I know, this is a hard one to put into practice, however, it will get you back on professional level in a heartbeat when necessary). You are not responsible for how others react.
Changing your response to be professional and positive will change the toxic environment because the usual response will not longer fit.
When the supervisor quits, and their supervisor steps in, often the result is less than positive. Instead of comparing (it has changed, and you want to make it better), look for ways to make it happen in a positive direction.
Getting chewed out is not a comfortable situation. However, knowing you can change your work place (and maybe go to a situation that is similar or even worse is possible), gives you a professional edge in dealing effectively with simple tactics.
Blowing something way out of proportion means that there's a lot more happening than what is obvious.
I was in a work place, lasted nine months until I made a simple accounting error of $0.46 ... and that was used to terminate my position. Later on, after investigation, which I asked for, I discovered my boss had put my name on several forms that she had done incorrectly, and it was proven she did it. Guess what, she's still working for the company, and, even got promoted. Most of the honorable employees have either been forced out or terminated. Sometimes, you have to make the choice whether it is better to be right and unemployed, or to be employed and walk away with the paycheck.
If you can, make time to do something to relax your muscles before you head into work and head out of work. It can give you focus to remove the toxic thoughts.
Best wishes.
I feel very angry about the situation. The way she talks to me is so denigrating and unprofessional. She's made some very inappropriate decisions including giving me responsibilities I shouldn't have based on my position and when I try to talk about anything, she uses every tactic she can to shut me down. It's clear I can't bring any concerns to her. Knowing that I can leave with the help of HR makes me feel a little better about the situation. I'm afraid that my anger will get the best of me, though. Then I will be 100% in the wrong. I'm talking to my counselor today, so hopefully that will help.
Best wishes.
