there is an axiom in the music world that you don't GET to sound good until you are WILLING to sound bad. even a highly trained and practiced musician is going to make mistakes while learning/creating a new song. once the individual musicians learn the song, there is more hit and miss within the process of bringing those versions together into the instant gratification we enjoy when we click "play" on our listening devices.
i am not a musician, but my own music therapy uses live instruments, voice included. this music axiom translates seamlessly into my recovery program. when i begin using a new therapy tool, i can't expect to master the skill on the first go-round. anything worth doing is worth doing badly until i master the method. even if i never master that particular tool, the willingness to try exercises my psychic muscles for future attempts.
am i making sense? thoughts?
