I do landscaping and my step dad is my boss. And boy oh boy, he's a freaking jerk as a boss. He puts me down no matter what, yells at me constantly in front of customers, he gets mad if I ever have any questions. He's always treated me differently than his real kids. And that's understandable to an extent, but it feels like I am trapped in a cage with him. Because I have to live with him. Even if I quit my job, I still have to live with him. Don't get me wrong. He's not psychically abusive or anything, but he is verbally abusive. All he has ever done since he's met me is put me down. He has his nice moments, but majority of the time, I feel like i am treated different. I have talked to him face to face about it before and so has my mom. He still refusese to change or work on himself. And honestly, I don't know what to do anymore. Another thing is it seems almost everyone sides with him. Even though nobody has ever seen my side of the story or put themselves in my shoes. I honestly have felt kind of suicidal about this. Because as I said, I feel trapped with this job. Even if I quit, I have to put up with him at home. I also have a feelings he will kick me out if I quit. Which would be just as bad. I really just wish my mom never met him sometimes, honestly.

It is not your problem that your step-dad treats you this way. It's his problem. As for how others may seem to be accepting it, sometimes, people know their intervention will actually make the situation worse.
Verbal abuse can be the hardest to cope with until we get our mind set that we are valuable, and those words of ... from ... reveal that person's lack of confidence in their well-being, nothing about us.
You were with your mother before he came along, and you will have your mother in your heart no matter what.
Rather than wanting to make the relationship disappear (not a task I'd want to attempt), focus more on making your self look, be, and stand stronger, and make your life more comfortable for your well-being.
Having to live with verbal abuse is not easy, however, we can choose to respond with positive (sometimes, a quiet smile is the best I can do for myself) will help our well-being.
Pick a word, phrase, saying, and practice it in front of the mirror. Use this every time he starts his usual tactics (there is usually a pattern that is noticeable once we are able to take a step back), and focus on your well-being.
It will change the response, once the usual response no longer fits, they have to try something else. May not improve immediately, however, it does change, and you keep picking the words that help you remain calm, focused, and strong ... it will help.
Best wishes! You are not alone in this!
