Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I have severe insomnia since June when my acute anxiety attacks started. I medicate for sleep... pretty much have tried every sleep med on the market.
I had a sleep study done and it showed nothing. The sleep doctor is now suggesting seeing a therapist that specializes is insomnia. My insurance doesn't cover it and we are struggling financially so I can't pay out of pocket.
I bought the book the sleep therapist wrote and CBT. I am SOOOOOOO skeptical.
Anyone have any positive thoughts on this? My mind races with the most bizarre and anxious thoughts through the day and night. I've uselessly tried to breathe and change my thoughts but am never successful....even less at night.
I need something to change because my entire family life and job are impacted with a few broken hours of sleep at best.
Any suggestions?
Thanks all

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
I share your skepticism of the books. However valid the information, information overload never helped my insomnia a bit. A million fully valid points still equal chaos. Which right is the rightest right? Why can't experts always agree?
The good news is that I am sleeping well these days. Journaling and sharing within my therapy support network were my two most important tools in accomplishing that miracle.
Gentle support while you find the formula that works for you, My3. Keep trying. Every case is unique and restorative rest is well worth the effort.
Talked to my pyschiatrist/therapist yesterday about it and he suggested i at least go to bed and close my eyes, listen to my youtube thunderstorm sounds and do some creative visualization.i tried tonight, but it must take practice because i just ended up frustrated and got up.
i know CBT-I is supposed to be the gold standard for insomnia and i know i make a lot of cognitive errors when it comes to sleep but i am so discouraged,i can't even seem to change my thinking that it just won't work which may very well be a self fulfilling prophecy.
i am exhausted as i am sure you are as well.
i wish you all the best with the CBT and that you soon get the relief of restorative sleep.
I shut off my phone and put on some youtube anxiety sleep music and didn't turn on the TV in bed last night. I got a little bit of sleep. What works one night doesn't seem to work the next but ill keep trying
I believe I found my way out of the insomnia fog by collecting holistic sleep aids. Variety is good. If one tool isn't working, for whatever reason, I have others to try.
Hope a restorative rest finds you soon.
I truly feel like I don't have the capacity to be a proper mother so hoping me acting like i'm energetic and doing more will help the kids too.
Ughhh
"I truly feel like I don't have the capacity to be a proper mother"
Don't do that to yourself, my3. You don't deserve that.
One of the hardest things I have learned from being a new parent, is the guilt that builds from always wishing you could be or do more. It can become CRUSHING when you are dealing with any sort of mental affliction/issue.
Try to be compassionate with yourself. Struggling with anxiety & insomnia is brutal. Doing that while trying to be a great parent is even harder. Then add on top of that, this circus-of-a-world we are living in with Covid. It is SO TOUGH RIGHT NOW.
The one thing you can do is find those little moments to change the inner critic narrative and be kind to yourself.
