When I look back on my devout wishes that I could **be Normal**, I now believe I was suppressing some of my greatest attributes in order to appear like the mythical Jane Q Normal. Much therapy work later I now believe Jane Q Normal is more mythical than unicorns and I have learned the me that I really am.
For what it's worth
Writing out my psycho ticks helps me bring order to the chaos between my ears and make my peace with the social weirds around me. Talking about ^it^ helps, too, but talking is too transcendental to bring about sustainable change.
The writing part can be a sort of purge too but it really allows me to organize and my thoughts, ideas and feelings and problem solve.
Spilling your guts to a therapist is awesome. I’ve done it, on more than one occasion! But it’s just a small part of the therapeutic process, in my opinion.
So try the writing and if you really are struggling with it, mention it to your therapy and ask for guidance.
