Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

I've found that I get that awful anxious feeling by the smallest things lately. Some of these things should be happy, fun things. But they only make me worry and feel just plain sick.
For instance... I recently won a house. Yes.. should be a happy time. But every time I get a piece of mail about it or a phone call I go to pieces. I have to arrange to see a CPA and the thought of driving to his office has me in a state.
I love my kids, but when I know they are coming to visit I go nuts. Start popping Xanax before they get here. Again... this should be something I look forward to... but they make me nervous. And I love them completely. We don't have any problems.
I am a caregiver for my husband who has some pretty serious problems. And I am a patient who gets little care-giving from my husband because he just isn't able to help me much. So I'm stuck. This is all very depressing.
Thanks for listening.

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

Something I read recently that I found really interesting:
If your mind wants to worry, it will find SOMETHING to worry about.
So it isn't important WHAT your mind is worrying about.
It could be worrying about something big, something small, something good, something bad.
Just notice that your mind is worrying.
It's just doing that same old habit.
(I'm at the stage of trying to notice when I am worrying, and trying to substitute a more useful thought, or some humor, or go and do something active and constructive to distract myself.)
Being a caregiver is difficult. Is there anyone who can give you a break to get out and do something relaxing or rejuvenating for yourself? Maybe your kids can do that when they visit? And are there people you can reach out to (in addition to here), to give you some support and caring?
CPA: Can you do business over the phone or by mail/email, instead of driving to their office?
Feeling stuck does not mean that you actually are stuck. Other people may be able to see and suggest possibilities and options that you cannot see.
I hope something I said helps a little.

I think I'm just a born worrier like my mother was. But I KNOW all these illnesses have magnified the problem to the point of being unbearable.
Freaked me out like mad. My counsellor said I should cancel - but you can't cancel when you have promised.
She turned out to be the best thing that had ever happened to me in five years. She normalised me. She was normal, and peaceful, and remarkably kind hearted, and she brought me back down from defcon 3 to 0 without me ever acknowledging the state I was in to start with.
I think I was hard on her, and I am ashamed of that - but she helped me amazingly.
I guess I'm saying that the things we fear are often the things that don't come true. I wonder if that is because we fear them? but if something gets me, it's always something I hadn't freaked out about in advance. :D
In my recovery of balance to normal reaction anxiety - I started with exaggerated startle response first as it was affecting my ability to function in most situations, I noticed more and more markers (little triggers to certain pattern of thought), and worked on those in finding ways to use them to help me function better.
It's a difficult challenge to find balance in care-giving, however, as I was reminded, I must take care of myself first before attempting to take care of someone else. This helps me to keep active in making sure I get "free" time as well as the person I'm providing care-giving for.
Best wishes. You are not alone!
