Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

Best wishes.
I usually settle down with a book about an hour before I want to go to sleep, read some of the book, listen to some calming music and drink some lavender tea to relax me a little bit. Rubbing lavender oil into the soles of your feet helps you to relax as well or spraying some onto your pillow.
The more relaxed I am the easier I find it to drift off to sleep.
I then have issues staying asleep!! So I'll wake up and literally every thought or worry I have comes flooding back.
I found something on Pinterest which basically talked about taking deep breathes to calm yourself while your feeling anxious, making sure your comfortable, keeping your eyes closed and basically trying to clear your mind, focus on your breathing and push away any of the thoughts that are making you anxious. It takes a bit of practice so try it for about one minute one night and then gradually increase it so you are actually achieving it. (The idea is not to give yourself something else to be anxious about by trying to do this activity too quick and struggling with it, small, achievable steps arthe best way.)
Eventually you will be relaxed enough and your mind clear enough you will be able to sleep without the anxious thoughts and feelings entering your mind as you willhave trained yourself to clear your mind.
I started it just over a week ago when I wasn't sleeping at all due to anxiety. I can now clear my mind for about 5 minutes (see small steps!) it doesn't sound like much but for someone whose brain never shuts up its a huge achievement... I know the more I practice the longer I'll be able to clear my mind for.
It's worth a shot and it's definately a healthier option that turning to sleeping tablets or other meds.
Meds can increase anxiety (one of my painkillers for my shoulder makes me really anxious).
Maybe see if there is something else the doctor can prescribe that has less side effects if you think they are the cause.
Good luck!
Other than that, I would just recommend what the others have suggested. I wish you well. That would certainly be unsettling, not mention sleep disrupting.
I've just watched a fascinating documentary, now that I have 'fatty liver' and discovered that it's not fat that makes your liver fatty. It's flipping SUGAR. Actually, to be specific, fructose.
