Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Taking a trip overseas in a week and I'm starting to feel some anticipatory anxiety about it. At times I'm excited and looking forward to it and then there are the times that I get nervous and started feeling anxious. I know excited and anxious can be pretty similar and that when taking a big trip like it's normal to feel anxious, especially considering how long it's been since I've traveled overseas. I just need to be able to maintain a balance between the excitement and the anxiousness and allow both to exist without focusing on dwelling too much on either. Easier said than done, but it's doable. It's what I've been working on with all the meditation and mindfulness practice I've been doing. Sure there will be challenges and sure there will be times I feel uneasy, but it will also be a lot of fun and it will be an adventure.
Not sure if there is a point to all this other than trying to get some of the thoughts out of my head and into words.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. But, over a month ago, she couldn't take my insurance anymore, and I had to stop...
And yes, I was just going to say what you just said.... I was watching a YouTube video about anticipatory anxiety (you might want to check out YouTube for some free anxiety coping videos) and this person said that "anxiety is excitement" and that it's basically how we view it, as a good thing (excited! Yay! Happy!) or anxiety (Ugh! Scared! Booo!).
Think about all the fun parts you are looking forward to doing there. You will do great!
Keep writing..... have fun, send us here on DS a postcard.... lol. :-)
for what it's worth
i consider excitement to be a form of anxiety. in managing my own anticipation anxiety, i start plying my therapy tools during the excitement stage where i am more receptive and better able to maintain my sense of humor about ^it^. in my own case, a sense of dread is a rather consistent hangover from the excitement.
Use the excitement you are feeling to fuel your travel. Enjoy your trip and tell us about it when you return:)
