Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Hi all, i'm new to the group and its my first post.
i am not sure if this is the correct place to post this, i hope it is.
i've got a major problem with thinking the worst is going to happen in any given situation. i am not always right, but its horrible when my gut instinct says something bad is going to happen and it does! so whats wrong with me? does anyone else have constant "worst case scenario" thoughts? and what can i do about it.
i have graves disease, and i do suffer from really bad anxiety, depression, brain fog etc, but this is something i've had for as long as i've been an adult. i sometimes miss the days of being a kid and being carefree.
its really horrible, cause when i should be thinking something positive about a situation, my mind automatically goes to the negative. like when my best friend fell pregnant, the first thing i thought was her losing the baby. wtf is that!!! she's my best friend and i'd do anything for her, but here i think that! come to think of it now, almost all my thoughts end in the death of someone and me having to try console the remaining ppl. worst case scenario!!!
please note that i am not scared of dying. i have been alone most of my life, if not physically, still mentally, always alone in the crowd, the odd one out, so i am not worried about being alone, i kind of prefer that, cause i dont feel responsible for anyone.
another thing, on this note, is that i always blame myself if anything happens to the people around me, if i am the reason they were there in the first place. like when my fiance picks me up from work, if he had an accident on his way to fetch me, i'd blame myself, even tho i wasnt there. the mere fact that i was the reason why he was there because he had to fetch me, makes me responsible.
i dont like to constantly think the worst, cause it makes me anxious but its the first thing that pops in my head and forcing myself to think the opposite, or tell myself, it wont happen, feels like a lie, feels like i'm trying to deny fate.
i appreciate any replies, i hate automatically thinking like this :(

Writing it out shows a specific pattern of thought. so change that pattern to add more positive images, and work in positive words to help you move forward.
Best wishes!
You're definitely not alone in having these kinds of thoughts. Within the last couple of years I noticed that I too was always worrying about the worst case scenario, even when in reality it was highly unlikely or completely irrational, I would still agonise over it for hours/days/weeks/months until that perceived 'threat' had passed.
More recently I've been reading and listening to podcasts about Mindfulness, which is essentially the practice of drawing your focus into the real world around you, instead of being constantly preoccupied with the frightening (and exhausting) world you've created inside your own head.
Introducing a few mindfulness techniques into my day has really helped me to a) notice when my irrational thoughts are starting to take over, and b) calm myself down and bring my focus back into the real world.
I can't promise it'll work for everybody, but it's definitely helped me to understand my inner workings, and it might be worth a try for you!
Welcome to the forum x
Is that not the same outcome that you're looking to achieve?
i was going to a psychologist who was going to retrain my brain using CBT, cognitive behaviour therapy, but i ran out of funds and couldnt go to her anymore. as for the God complex, i dont agree, reason being, its not a matter of "Thinking that you're so important you can be held accountable for other people's actions.", its more of a fear of seeing other ppl hurting and not being able to help them. i am very shy and its hard for me to express emotion, i also hate seeing ppl in pain, mentally or physically. so for me to know them and see their pain and not be able to help them, makes me feel like crawling into a hole and hiding. when i should be supporting them, i am thinking of myself, ha, i guess there is a bit of selfishness mixed in there!! eureka! lol.
i'll also investigate that mindfulness stuff, but i have signed up for a few positive affirmation instagram accounts. i like the sayings. they do make me feel better for a bit.
@beachshore, how do i handle anxiety and depression, to be honest, i dont. because the meds i was on made my memory so bad that i cant recall what i did yesterday, literally, i went off them. so i have to treat it symptomatically, as in, when i have a panic attack, like every morning when i wake up and an conscious, i tell myself to breathe deeply and slowly. when i am depressed, i find something else to do, music seems to get my mind off life and i forget the time and actually get stuf done, even if it is just washing the dishes. else i do have momentary drugs, like brazepam - anxiety, like xanax. nothing for depression cause its not a quick fix.
i'm glad to hear that i am not the only one, my fiance hasnt got any depression/anxiety issues so he struggles to understand why i freak out when something is going wrong instead of just handling the situation logically or at least calmly!
good luck to everyone and thanks for the advice, will try the mindfulness stuff as soon as i get to it :)
PS: does any one also realise that being depressed and anxious, one chooses to procrastinate EVERYTHING!!! but thats for another day.
