Hello. I joined this site mostly because of a family problem....which I posted it that forum, but I thought I ought to join this group too because I've had anxiety problems for over a decade. Recently I've been managing okay, meaning I can go to work, clean my house, eat well, and not have random crying or vodka for lunch. I've felt decently alright, but a recent fight with the only family member I could draw any comfort from has led me here. I was searching the web for help and found this place. I don't really have friends offline because I'm so socially awkward and get overwhelmed so easily. I don't really show it (most people assume I'm angry and antisocial by choice) but I will leave and go back to my safe spots. I don't like to leave my house, except to go to work and sit at my desk. Now that things are really bad and out of my control I'm really losing it and I feel so alone.

Now it appears you are even more isolated and feeling anxious on top of it, that's no fun. I am glad you came here for a bit of support and possibly it will help you to feel less lonely too.
I truly hope you can mend things with your family member soon especially if that person is a very important person in your life and one who has been supportive of you.
Feel better..Patty
I understand your situation, and will share with you that the hostility that people see, does go away. It takes time, determination, and a lot of work to change it. You are not alone.
Having the difficulty with the relative that you feel comfortable around is actually a step forward in changing your view, and that will change what happens around you.
Where you know you're comfortable, add a bit of what makes you uncomfortable and practice being how you want to be in front of the mirror, and keep doing this until it feels natural.
Even when I'm overwhelmed now, I smile naturally (took a lot of practice in front of the mirror to learn this relaxing technique), and it helps.
Best wishes.
