General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

Hi everyone, It has been quite a while since I have been on this site. I have been doing pretty good until recently. I feel like I am loosing my mind. My sister's are always acting better than me. they do things together without inviting me. And then I finally say something and now I am the bad one. My sister's are always talking about how smart they all are and their families are. I feel like I can never measure up to their expectations. I am sick of trying to fit into my own family. I don't know what to do anymore. I told them that my family will not be attending any more family get togethers because I am sick of feeling like a 2nd class citizen in my own family.

It was a huge hit with about 200 guests. We got so many compliments on our hard work and the great time they were having. There are so many nice pictures on Facebook with everyone saying they reconnected with old friends. But let me tell you, I am glad it is behind us. We all put a lot into it. We are having a lunch meeting next week, which I am looking forward to. Yesterday was...

When you have anxiety you can be very ashamed of everything. and feel it's not good enough. If you were married to an engineer and had a couple of kids in advanced maths class, and your sister were talking, would you feel put down? No.
you need to ask yourself that question any time you feel put down. Who is doing the putting down? Is it my sister, or is it me......?
My big sister has just bought a beautiful new, expensive house. All her kids play musical instruments, etc. She has every right to show me these things and expect me to be happy for her. And I am.
If I felt that my kids weren't good enough, maybe I would feel narked that her kids are so good. If I felt my little hovel wasn't good enough, maybe I would feel bad about her house. But I like my hovel and I got it on my own after my divorce and I have worked hard for it and on it, and I like it.
And I love my sister, and I'm really happy for her. I think she was worried that I would think she was being wasteful of money or something. You've got to be kidding. I'd buy that house if I had the money.
She and her husband have reaped the rewards of a good marriage with great communication, and common shared goals. I didn't get lucky that way, and it took me 17 years of total misery to realise I had to cut my losses. But that's my problem.
Be careful never to think you are being judged until you've got it in writing, together with a judge's gavel and a full courtroom. Nobody's judging you. They're sharing their lives with you. You're the one judging them.
I use to be jealous of my brother (he was 19 months older than me).....I always thought him to be smarter and my mom favored him over me.....and she made it no secret. He passed away almost 40 years ago and up until about 4 or 5 years ago, she kept comparing me to my deceased brother....until I told her "enough.....he isn't here any more and it is not fair to compare him to me....and it is not ok!"
This put an end to the comparison thing. However.....I do love my brother and miss him dearly.....we were best friends.
However, the past several years, I have learned to look at my own qualities.....my own worth. I stopped comparing myself to others. I have found my own happiness.
I went to college and earned a degree in psychology and earned a 3.88 GPA. I earned 2 "A's" in Algebra in which I suck big time at math, but I hired a really good tutor and did it (no cheating....I did it on my own). My dad had told me when I was in grade school that I was unteachable....especially in math....HA....he lived long enough to see I wasn't so stupid :)
I proved to myself that I am VERY smart. I am excelling at other areas of my life....it took all 54 years of my life to learn through some very difficult circumstances and fiery trials.
It has been the past few years that I have stopped comparing myself to others and concentrated on myself. I have beat anxiety by having a more positive attitude.....about everything and everyone. I feel it is equal opportunity in how ppl live their lives.
Sometimes "others" that are bullies or are "superior" are not very happy ppl....in fact they are miserable and you should be glad you are not them. The trick is to stop comparing yourself to others and find your own happiness.
Find other ppl that you are more comfortable to be around. Don't pass up invitations to friends or ppl who treat you well. I have adopted ppl and they treat me better than my family of origin.
They also help you feel better about yourself becuz they accept you just the way you are. Society is the one who states that family is everything and you must have a relationship with them!!!! hooey!!!! Not everyone mixes well.....especially with ppl they share DNA with. So remove their label and voila....they are just another human being. With several billion ppl on this planet, I'm betting their are some others that would love to have an equal relationship with :)
This is just my shiny nickels worth today :)

Basically unless she's actually saying things like "You're not up to our standard" then try not to take it too hard, it might just be the anxiety getting to you. If they're doing things without inviting you though you really should talk to them about that if it bothers you, which it seems like it does a bit.
Just because they say, speak, share, and voice their choices, their opinions does NOT make it your problem. It's their perspective.
You can change how you feel by listing all the skills you have, all the knowledge you have, the experiences you have, and remember those every time you feel less than normal (this is a common anxiety sensation).
You are valued just as much as everyone else.
Best wishes!
I was feeling a bit out of sorts today but after reading all above I am now sitting here with a smile on my face so I thank you all. I know I am going to be okay. I just need to remember to be me cause no one does it better.
Try to be happy for your sister, she's clearly a battler and she's managed to get a kid in the advanced maths class. That's great. The kid's going to have a future. Meanwhile my son won first in english and works in a restaurant. My daughter topped out of maths and was in the gifted and talented class, but got sick of school, dropped out in the 6th form and is now at polytechnic learning 3d animation.
You just don't know how things are going to go. Don't worry about it. :)
