My husband doesn’t see that he has a drinking problem, which makes me feel crazy. He will drink a 12 or 15 pack in a day and then forget everything he says and does. I have finally given him an ultimatum. I just don’t know what else to do.

That’s the best thing. But be prepared. If he’s not ready to quit he may let you down. Stay strong and keep posting.

That's ironic. Right up until the day. I went into a hospital detox....compliments of the local police.....I didn't think I had a drinking problem. All the counselors I came into contact with throughout my outpatient treatment, made it pretty clear to me that I had a problem.

It was my wife's ultimatum that motivated me to get help. Without it, I probably wouldn't be here today. So your husband may one day thank his lucky stars and you for not putting up with it anymore.

10 years ago, I wasn't sure I would make it this long but by the grace of God and the help of some very caring counselors, including my AA sponsor, I am alive today. I am happy today. I am at peace, I am motivated, I am busy, and I have never been happier.

A dozen a day is a problem. Putting it in his face is great. Unfortunately only he can realize the problem. And then, even tougher, want to change. I quit for my wife more than for myself in the beginning. Then the sobriety felt so good I embraced it for myself. Looking back I see that it was selfish ‘love’ for her that I first felt. It wasn’t really for her. It was for me not wanting to lose her. Now that I feel like a real person , it’s unconditional love. Because whatever happens in our marriage I will maintain sobriety for my soul. The best reason. Hope he decides to make a healthy lifestyle for himself and you.

Have you looked into finding a local Alanon Family Meeting for support and guidance? Do you have any other family members that are aware of his problem that can offer support? An intervention may be in order. He may become defiant and angry with you, but he know deep down he has a problem. If you are worried about losing him, just imagine losing him forever when he ends up in the hospital due to liver failure. Trust me, I know! Nine days in ICU with a 25% chance of survival really put things in perspective for me! Sending you hugs and support from someone that was on his side (16 months sober now).

    check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

     I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...
