Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Went out tonight and got some sparkling apple/mango drink, some sugar free straw daiquiri mix. I do love me a V. Daiquiri. , and I got some seltzer water as recommended by my friend graciepie. I looked for alcohol free wine. Guess what didn't find any. I'm not sure I was really going to buy it but I was in that isle. We also have diet soda. So I guess that is my go to drinks. Plenty of options for thanksgiving.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

Did not realise I was not allowed to try and understand why drinking is so important to how I celebrate an occasion.

Of course you are "allowed" to make comments. So am I.
Hope you and your families have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
God Bless!
I am not saying that because a person looks at this they will pick up a drink but I am saying if my thinking starts to go this way am I starting to justify that first drink.

Unfortunately I have to make one last shopping trip to the grocery store today to get lunch stuff for out of town guests. We already have the turkey and all the makings for stuffing, gravy, and mashed potatoes, along with the obligatory green vegetable. While I am out I will pick up more seltzer. I am not buying beer this year -- unfortunately the beer drinkers can't make it. My sister will probably bring wine.
I love Thanksgiving!
If I am looking to have mocktails am I trying to look as if I am in control and if I believe I can control it can I then grow that seed into the first drink. Again my obsession is still in play, especially early days.
EJG you have a bit of sobriety behind you so I like to think if your thinking started to go that way you would give it the swift kick. I am not sure someone in new recovery is aware of it and have the insight to process it.
And as for the feed I am there when it comes to a feast, the more the better, what time do you want me there???

..........or for others it is simply because they like that particular "mocktail". I LOVE the taste of virgin caesars. I could just as easily call it "clamato juice" as I can a "mocktail". Not everyone that drinks fancy drinks without booze in them is looking to walk a fine line or craving alcohol. Sometimes it's just fun to drink something other than water.
I really don't get how anyone can get their back up at this thread. I think it's great to idea share about different types of non-alcoholic bevvies. Variety is the spice of life, afterall:))
But yes. Variety is the spice of life and their might be something out there I've never heard of before. Such as :POSTUM. WTH is that?
I appreciate all the input. I forgot about eggnog. Yum. But puts the lb's on me this time of year. I usually have it with booze. But I usually HAD my cider with booze too. I managed that just fine this season.
The food... well there will be plenty of the usual. I hear we are having lots of desserts.
Oh and we have a lovely little drink that we mix up for this holiday. It has vanilla ice cream, fruit punch and sprite in it. Sometimes my brother in law will put rum in it (yuck!!) but I like it just fine without anything in it.
And at least you'll know what your drinking!@#
