Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
So I've been in plenty of trouble, legally and with my family and I just recently got out of jail and had no where to go besides my dads house (which I was kicked out of about 5 weeks ago) where my dad and stepmom live. My stepmom and I never really got along. I mean yeah there were times when we did, but that all kind of went out the window when my addiction took over and I put her and my dads marriage and happiness in danger. I've done a lot of hurtful things and I wish I could take it all back, but we all know that's not possible. Today was the first time I've seen her/talked to her since I got out of jail and it went decently well. Some anger, tears and a few laughs. I think things are going to get better from here, but I know she has a lot of resentment towards me and a lot of worry about me being back in the house. Was just hoping I could get some input on what to do and how to make things easier for both her and my dad. She doesn't have any children of her own and I am my dads only child, so he's very protective which she doesn't understand. She's more of the tough love type. She told me she loves me today and it meant a lot and I don't even remember the last time her and I actually had a good/non awkward conversation before today. Just could use some help here. Thank you!

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

It takes time to let go of resentment and that will only happen when your stepmom sees the positive changes you have made in your life. You can be an example for others to follow if you stay sober, stay out of trouble and show some kindness and compassion toward others. These are things that have helped me more times then I can count!
AA is a great place to find support. I got a sponsor and did the steps, then my life changed exponentially. The people I met and the life lessons I learned have helped me tremendously. I have a great life now and I am more happier then I have ever been. Good luck on your road to recovery. I hope you can find peace and happiness like I did.
God Bless
It is good that you had that talk with your stepmother and that your relationship is looking better. No doubt there will be some awkward moments ahead as there are in any such relationship and this is where you will need to learn to react differently.
You say that your stepmother has a lot of resentment towards you but looking at it from her point of view and bearing in mind the things that have happened, that could be understandable. My suggestion to you is to concentrate on doing the right thing at all times and your gut feeling will guide you on that. If your stepmother gets angry with you at some point or seems resentful, that is not your business. What you need to do is to mind your side of the bargain and to bite your tongue if necessary. You can apologise for past behaviour and while apologies are good, actions speak louder than words. It is by your actions that you can win peoples trust.
You are lucky to be back in your dad’s house and to have a roof over your head. Maybe you can now start thinking about what you need to do so that your thinking is changed and past episodes are not repeated. Good luck on the journey ahead.
The secret of sobriety is not taking the first drink or drug. Once you do that, the compulsion kicks in. As you may have noticed, there is no control over the compulsion. The will power comes into play in not taking the first drink or drug.
I did bad things, when I drank and used drugs. The past cannot be undone. I have to live for today. Some persons will never forgive me. That is OK. I live for today, with my sober self. The new me found new friends and a new wonderful life.Make friends on this site,m especially with newcomers. Write a Journal, on this site. Share it, with your friends. AA is good, if you have a god. If you don't you can use yourself, as your higher power. It works for some. It did not work for me. I just use this Daily Strength group.
