Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Just read an interesting article in About.com Alcoholism Sorry dont know haw to do the link thing.Concerning how the allready known dangers of smoking are increased by more than 100% for recovering alcoholics due to the damage done by years of smoking
Also that That old adage deal with one addiction at a time (commonly heard in a few rooms i attend) may not be a good idea either as continueing with nicotine can increase the craving for alcohol
I'm lucky as I didnt have to deal with this other addiction but see it still playing a part in many friends and family in recovery

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

Just thought I'd throw that in for what it's worth. My AA sponser is a chain smoker and his sponser was a doctor who was always trying to get my sponser to quit. No way. My sponser said the same thing I am hearing here. Strangly enough, the doctor died in a freak accident. He drowned while white water rafting when he fell overboard.
When I was in detox, cigarettes were not allowed but they gave the smokers those nicotine patches also. Nicotine is one of the hardest addictions to break so I sympathize with any smoker who is trying.
God Bless
Don unless I'm missing something no one mentioned anything about pot.
Sorry to hear Denny.
We are mere mortals... It is up to us as to how long we last here.

I have just been listening to a lecture given by an American addiction, pain and cancer specialist and during the question time this very question was brought up.
I have no interest in debating this but hope the link will help.
Two of my closest friends were heavy smokers. Each had issues with alcohol too... But both have finally to quit both and are all the better for it. It's a good thing to see it working with them.. Sober, fun and without the (cough cough) cloud of smoke around them. I'm glad to know my friends are doing well and not on a course for future problems. I want them around for a long time.
Peace & strength to you all
