Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Peace.
Olive don't second guess yourself. My bottom was different than most others people's but it was MY bottom. I would like to give myself credit for at least being smart enough to seek help BEFORE I lost everything. To say someone is not ENOUGH of an alcoholic to really want or to deserve help is just plain crazy talk.
I truely believe you are finding sobriety and are on the right path...every sober day is a victory.
HTL, your courage and willingness to take the steps has been inspiring and I encourage you to continue on this new path. Highs and lows, I don't really think about. There's no need to compare. Ask yourself honestly why you think your an alcoholic.
If anyone reading this can identify with being an alcoholic, you don't need wait until you've wreaked havoc in yours and everyone elses life. Just coming here and soul searching shows concern. You don't need to wait until what some describe as a low bottom before taking action. Change can happen sooner if you are open and willing to do so. Acceptance, willingness and action.
I will eventually begin a thread about this forum and how self-confident AA apologists have taken over what once was, a few short years ago, a non-partisan and open forum for all who are seeking support from a baffling dilemma: alcoholism.
Anna is/was a friend of mine. She is and has been doing her best, using AA as a support, to do something to get a handle on this thing;.
The big secret here is that AA is a sham. The self-conceded report from the AA general services survey of 1989 is that after one year, the SURVEY SHOWS....... maximum five small percent of newcomers having maintained sobriety and even still sitting around the tables for encouragement to the newcomers....
The whole concept and practice of the 12 steps is a good thing overall but.... Hey I am overstepping my bounds here so I will do as I have been instructed to do and shut my yap.
For now....
By the way BBH, what exactly did you mean when you boldly said in another thread "I saw that coming"? Shall we discuss it?
But if someone is using AA and it is working for them then so be it. how can you say the AA members are taking over the board? Maybe the non AA people just aren't stepping up to the plate -
Geeez - I am not an AAer but i support what is working for anyone using AA - it's all about getting sober. From the members of the group and such, it appears that there are more AAers than not - whose fault is that? If a non AAer takes offense to something, then heck don't respond to the post - it's really a simple process - no difficulty involved.
This is a well rounded board with a mixture of people, personalities, cultures and views on sobriety -
Let the gal be - if AA all the way is what keeps her sober today, then I say GO FOR IT! It's better than living in the hell drinking can bring -
AA is so far working for me. Right now I believe I owe the fellowship my life.
And for anyone who is questioning whether I have "changed" my ego. ...Absolutely not. When it all boils down, who really cares anyway? I am learning love, respect, and restraint and I am being rewarded with love, respect, and serenity. This way is the better way. I am a work in progress. Peace.
You attacked Phil (which I agreed with by the way) over your girlfriends hurt feelings with him and now you attach Anna which I'm guessing is your girlfriend that you are referring to as the person who stood by Anna.
I would suggest some co-dependency for you my dear. Karen's a big girl and can fight her own battles. I've seen her do it.
If you've been lurking for sometime and then come back here under a new name, it's deceptive, sneaky & low in my opinion to those who were your "friends".
Especially if you're gonna come back & attack people, this very sight as well as AA. What in God's name happened to you? Shouldn't "love" make you all googly and happy rather than militant, nasty & hateful?
Maybe your dirty laundry should not be aired in public? Just a thought......
Karen-I apologize.
If someone doesn't like it here, leave. Why on earth would you put yourself through stress if you hate it here? Makes no sense to me....but as I've heard "some are sicker than others".
How pathetic.
Find peace man. geezopete!
