Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I am not a religious person but these days and for a long time now I have come to believe in the power of prayer and it has helped me through my recovery along with AA meetings and a beautiful 12 step program for living.
Prayer is a personal thing so I may be the only one posting on this topic but if you would like to share a prayer or just share your views please post.
The Lords Prayer was the only prayer I knew before coming into recovery except for the ones I used when in trouble.
God if you get me out of this one I will never drink again. Liar. Or the alcoholics prayer. O God never again. Normally said the morning after a big night out sometimes said over the porcelain alter (Toilet Bowl).
But my prayers have change and the first one I came in contact with is the Serenity Prayer.
God, Grant me the Serenity
To accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
and Wisdom to know the difference.
It lets me know that I cannot change 99.9% of things outside of me. People ,Places, etc. That I can change 99.9% of things inside of me. Especially my thinking and the way I see things. And the wisdom to know the difference between the two.
This is only one of many helpful prayers that are available if you want to use them..

What a great day to be sober.
A little verse I read and like below.
There have been many turning points in my life a lot I didnt see but theres I lot I can see today if I sit and reflect on what it was like, what happened and what it is like today.
Someone once said. One usually finds their destination on the road they take to avoid it.
And it just seems to me my whole life I spent dogging a weaving
There have been a lot of crossroads in my life and though it seems I may have chosen the wrong turn at times for what I have today and have had for the past 16 and a half years I dont think I would change it..
Today I believe there is a Power greater than myself who wants me here.
And just for today I can see how blessed I am.

Thankyou whatever works for you. I am 57 going on 18 and I also listen to Kid Rock I have 5 of his CDs and when I want to chill out I listen to Kid Rock, Metalica , Offspring , Blink 182, Black Sabbath especially there Old and New Testament. To each there own. If Schubert works for you good but this is what works for me.
And as you said rain. This isn't a prayer, but it's what gets me pumped and helps me through some days...

Loving Father, I pray for our friend at this sad and difficult time.
I pray that You will bring comfort to , and give her the peace which passes all understanding.
I pray that in all of her grief and sadness, that she will not feel alone, but will always be conscious of the reality of Your presence with her.
I ask You to strengthen her and surround her with Your love.
Amen.
I am immersed in God.
I allow myself to let go of the past and the future,
To leave all my concerns in God's hands,
And to simply be with God,
Here and now.
One of the things recovery has taught me is everything I have is on loan and to enjoy and love what I have been given. And to let go and let God and though at times this can be hard most times the end result is peace of mind. Yesterday is history and tomorrow a mystery. Whether I moan or cry for the next year I cannot change a single moment of my past. And tomorrow isnt here yet and whether I am here or not the sun will still shine and life will go on. All I have is this moment and with Gods help I am trying to live in the now. No Other Way.

There are two types of problems:
Those we have the power to do something about
Those that we don't
It helps in our recovery to be able to understand the difference. Rather then fretting about the weather, we might as well simply accept it. No amount of worrying or thinking about it will change it. Why waste energy worrying about something we have no power to control? Once we accept that there are people, places, and things we can not change we can move on to those areas were our efforts and energy can improve the situation or fix a problem. This acceptance offers us a measure of additional serenity.
When we seek the courage to change the things we can, we are seeking that quality within ourselves and our store of recovery tools that will enable us to deal with the problems and realities of life without reliance on drugs or alcohol.
We no longer have to react without thinking to people that push our buttons or things that once frustrated us. We can ask our Higher Power for Good Orderly Direction (wisdom). We can call a recovering friend for feedback. We can count to ten or go for a walk and wait for our emotions to cool off. We can talk about it in a meeting or with our sponsor. Today, we can choose to put our recovery first. Today we have choices.
We pray, O God of hope,for all families whose lives are torn and disrupted by drugs and alcohol.Enable them to identify the illness.Strengthen them to seek help.Bless them with the power of your love,which imparts transformation and wholeness to those who trust in your name.Grant that as they walk this tortured road,they may journey togetherand bound close in the bond of love.Amen.

SOBRIETY PRAYER
God's power is greater than the power of alcohol or drugs in my life.
God in this moment I ask for your help.
Help me to have personal ongoing power over my lower desires.
I know that without this daily God-given power --
I will lose control.
I ask in prayer for a Divine intervention.
Touch and uplift my personal control over momentary temptation.
I pray for immediate help, bring me spiritual as well as human support.
I pray for 10 times the control to abstain.
I pray for God's Will in my own willpower.
I choose to experience the high of sobriety and the rewards it offers,
through a clear head and rational thought.
I experience the reward of realizing that this moment,
I have won the overcoming battles of this day.
God and I have a combined power.
Combined power that can not be overcome and can not be defeated.
I actively work with God's power that does not know relapse.
I pray for protection against my former self and its ways of living.
If I have succumbed to this in the past
and am now amidst the wreckage of my life,
I know in faith that with God's daily help I can
and will rebuild my life anew.
Life with God carries a promise given to me of success.
I choose God's happiness now.
I choose to work with God to rebuild my life,
my career, and my relationships.
I choose only alcohol and drug-free associations with others.
Because I choose life over the sickness and death associated with
substance abuse.
I ask God to heal me and satisfy my cravings.
I pray that even in healing I will never forget that I have an
addiction,
an addiction that has the power to harm myself and others.
I pray that I continually make a spiritual commitment to new life,
that will never allow entrance, to substances that poison living.
My life is now filled with opportunity that knows no end.
The new party is alcohol and drug-free,
filled with sober people committed to our new lifestyle.
Daily I support, and am supported by,
people strongly committed to sobriety.
Motivate me daily, dear God, to attend A.A. or N.A.
Daily I support, and am supported by, my strong faith in God.
God IS my help in every need.
