Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I am not a religious person but these days and for a long time now I have come to believe in the power of prayer and it has helped me through my recovery along with AA meetings and a beautiful 12 step program for living.
Prayer is a personal thing so I may be the only one posting on this topic but if you would like to share a prayer or just share your views please post.
The Lords Prayer was the only prayer I knew before coming into recovery except for the ones I used when in trouble.
God if you get me out of this one I will never drink again. Liar. Or the alcoholics prayer. O God never again. Normally said the morning after a big night out sometimes said over the porcelain alter (Toilet Bowl).
But my prayers have change and the first one I came in contact with is the Serenity Prayer.
God, Grant me the Serenity
To accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
and Wisdom to know the difference.
It lets me know that I cannot change 99.9% of things outside of me. People ,Places, etc. That I can change 99.9% of things inside of me. Especially my thinking and the way I see things. And the wisdom to know the difference between the two.
This is only one of many helpful prayers that are available if you want to use them..

Hi in Reply 42 I ask if you noticed anything about the prayer that stands out.
Not to many interested but if you look at the first letter of each word in the prayer it spells out ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS.

I for one will pray for you, as I am sure there are many others that are. Your prayers will help.
I remember when I first came home from rehab I went next door to neighbours I had fought with for years while drinking to drop a letter of that had been delivered to our address by mistake.(or was it). While there she said she hadnt seen me for a while. (Probably hadnt heard me more likely) I told her I had been in rehab doing something about my drinking. She said thats good we have been praying for you for years.
What I am saying you may be surprised who is praying for you. But your prayers will help.

Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him

Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always?" (p. 63 BB) God, Take my will and my life. Guide me in my recovery. Show me how to live. AMEN

STEP THREE: We made the decision that we needed to come under new management since our own management got us nowhere. So we turn our wills and lives over to the care of our new manager -- God. He will take care of us and manage our lives since we admitted in Step 1 that our lives were unmanageable, and in Step 2, that He could restore us to a manageable state and sanity. At this point both of you get down on your knees Both on knees, the sponsor says: "God, this is ___ (name) ____; he is coming to You in all humility to ask You to guide and direct him. ______ (name) _____realizes that his life is messed up and unmanageable. _____ (name) _____ is coming to You God in all humility to ask to be one of your children -- to work for you, to serve and dedicate his life to You and to turn his will and life over that he may be an instrument of Your love. Person repeats after sponsor: "God, I ask that You guide and direct me, and that I have decided to turn my will and life over to You. To serve You and dedicate my life to You. I ask all this in the name of God. I thank you God; I believe that if I ask this in prayer, I shall receive what I have asked for. Thank you God Amen."
Now that we have gone under new management, we believe what it says in the Big Book at the end of the Steps in How It Works: A: We were alcoholic and could not manage our own lives, B: No human power could RELIEVE our alcoholism, C: GOD COULD AND WOULD IF HE WERE SOUGHT!!!!!
If you want to quit drinking, you are going to have to quit drinking.

The Senility Prayer
God, Grant me the Senility
to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones that I do,
and the eyesight to tell the difference.

Now that I'm older, here is what I have discovered --
I started out with nothing, and I still have most of it.
My wild oats have turned into prunes and All Bran.
I finally got my head together, now my body is falling apart.
It's funny, but I don't remember being absent minded.
All reports are in ... Life is now officially unfair.
If all is not lost, where is it ?
It is easier to get older than it is to get wiser.
Some days you are the dog. Some days you are the hydrant.
I wish the buck stopped here, I could use a few.
Kids in the back seat cause accidents.
Accidents in the back seat cause . . . kids.
It is hard to make a comeback when you have never been anywhere.
The only time the world beats a path to your door is when you are in the bathroom.
If God had wanted me to touch my toes, He would have put them on my knees.
When I am finally holding all the cards, why does everyone decide to play chess?
It is not hard to meet expenses . . . they are everywhere.
The only differences between a rut and a grave are the depth and one has the ends kicked out.
These days I spend a lot of time thinking about the here after.....
I go somewhere to get something and then wonder what I am here after.......
If I wake up of a morning and nothing hurts, it may be a good indication that I have died during the night.
Oh, Well . . . I am lost! I have gone out looking for myself.

Early Version of the Seventh Step Prayer
Dear God,
I am coming to You on my knees in all humility to humbly ask You to forgive all my past wrongs and to remove all my defects of character. I want to start a new life today, and I ask You to help me do so and to keep helping if I keep asking.
In Step Three, I turned my will and my life over to Your care. Thank You for taking complete control of my life, and thank You for this opportunity to wipe my slate clean and start my life anew. In Steps Four, Five and Six I have completed my moral inventory and admitted to myself and another person the exact nature of my wrongs. I now admit these wrongs to You, God.
I am entirely ready to ask and pray now that You please remove from me every single defect of character. Specifically, I ask You to remove the following shortcomings listed in my Fourth Step moral inventory:
