Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Hi,
Im new to this group and need some help. I've been an alcoholic for about 20 years. I don't drink every day. About 2-3 times per week but very excessive when I do. 10-20 drinks each day I drink.
I'm on vacation (at home, nothing fancy) this week and can't seem to control my intake. Usually I work part time, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I usually drink Friday after work and Sunday. Sometimes Monday.
But being on vacation at home I've been drinking every other day. And I really don't even want to. But I can't seem to control it. Even though my stomach hurts and my mind is foggy, I just can't seem to keep myself from doing it.
I manage to function so far, but feel much worse this week. I know that my health is suffering but I struggle with going to meetings and quitting all together. I feel like my life would just be so boring. I can't remember how to enjoy life without alcohol.
Anyone with any advice would be appreciated.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

Try some controlled drinking and see if you are still confused.
I went through a 3 week outpatient program. If you live in the USA, every hospital has one. Just contact your local alcohol and substance abuse center, if you're interested.
The evening hours were convenient for me because I could work at my daytime job. While in the IOP I learned how to live a happy life without alcohol. I learned coping skills. I learned about triggers and how to deal with them. I followed up with AA meetings for continuing support.
That was 8 years ago. Today, I continue to attend occasional meetings although not nearly as many as in the beginning when my sobriety was still in a fragile state. I continue to live my life by the 12 steps and I have never been happier. I wish the same for you!
God Bless
