Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I turned 8 months sober yesterday. I was in a Zoom meeting and this girl passed out, probably ODed. She nodded off in the middle of the meeting and we were unable to wake her. She had her full name in her profile, so we looked her up on Instagram and called her. It didn't wake her. Eventually, her friend came and got her out of her coma or whatever. She looked dead. I thought I was looking at a dead woman. We were typing "Call 911" in the chat, but all she did was close the laptop. Her friend was strung out, too.
Why is this a gift? 8 months and 2 days ago, that was pretty much me. I was high in a midnight Zoom meeting, trying to "get" recovery. I had the gift of desperation. I had tried to stay sober but couldn't. Nothing had worked. Now, 8 months later, I'm a different person. I finally found a Higher Power that works for me. God has turned me into a man that my father can be proud of, even with my shortcomings. I am not perfect, far from it. I have a lot of wreckage in my past, some of it very close past. But I can change, move on, and be a better man for it. It took me a while to fall asleep, thinking about that girl and wondering if she's still alive. All I know is that I am clean and sober today. Just for today.

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmon

I hope that never happens when I am zooming....
That sounds like a scary situation, you all did the right thing, hard when it is a zoom meeting though.
I was on a online meeting once, and the lady had the bottle in her hand, swaying, not making any sense and was drinking during the meeting.
This was in my first month of sobriety and I remember feeling shocked, now I know that she has a disease and until she makes a conscious decision to stop and change her life, it will go on and on until she is dead.
Looking back, I have a lot of empathy for her, how sad that you attend an AA meeting, drink in hand.
Your story about the girl on Zoom reminds me of why I stay sober, you are so right, and yep, that could have been me too.
Take care
On this foundation, you will build your new life!
God Bless
The Zoom meeting must have been terrible for everyone. I'm so sorry for the woman who passed out, and all who witnessed it.
