Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Hi,
It's taken me a while to truely realise that I have a problem with alcohol and it is continuing to develop more and more. I'm sure you've heard similar stories but I need to get this out and admit to myself that I've really got to stop altogether. I can't stop at one. I am finding it increasingly difficult to stop once I've started, I make up excuses and fool myself into thinking "oh I've been working hard, I deserve this" or "it's such a nice day, it'd be lovely to have a nice cold beer". Enough is enough. I am done, but I need help.
My partner and I have been together for just over 4 years, we are engaged and both have good jobs and seem to be doing quite well for ourselves. However, we have both had our own issues with alcohol and we are just hurting each other.
Yesterday with it being such nice weather, I decided I would go to the local park, read my book and have a couple of cold beers. But, once I finished those beers, I decided "hmmm, i was enjoying those, I'd better get some more". So I do exactly that. I continue to sit outside, reading my book - drinking my beers. In my mind, I'm not doing anything particularly wrong, I'm just peacefully reading my book, what's the harm in that? It's a nice day afterall, so it's okay to have a few beers isn't it?
Oh no, I'm out of beer again. Well, I'd better go out to the shop and get some more then shouldn't I? She isn't home for another 2 hours, I'd have drank them by then, I can lie say I only had a couple earlier on while it was sunny.
Oh dear, she's mad, she's seen my beer in the fridge, oh no, she's taken them away and hidden them. Well, I'd better sneak out to the pub then.
Ah, lovely quiet pint. I wish she would stop messaging me and leave me alone, she's a hypocrite because she messed up the other day so what I'm doing is forgivable isn't it?
Ah, pint is finished. Better go to the shop and get some more fags... maybe I'll get some more beer too.
Ah, quick pint on the way home at the other pub - make that two.
Finally I'm home, with the beer I picked up earlier, oh yeah I got a bottle of whiskey too, that'll be nice.
She's confiscated my whiskey - only ended up having one shot - probably a good thing.
The rest of the night I drink my beer and smoke my lungs out and get to bed at around 6am.
I've wasted what could of been a productive day and I've had far too many days and nights just like this one and I want it to stop.
Apologies for rambling on going through my train of thoughts but I felt I needed to get it out.
What can I do to make things better? How can I stop?

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

I can’t tell you how to stop but I can tell you how I did it almost nine years ago.
Your post has brought back memories. I used to do some work up on the mountain at this time of year and the whole area around where I worked was littered with empty cans. When I arrived back home, I would open a new can, giving my wife the impression that I was just having ‘a beer’ after a hard day’s work. The new can would also eliminate the need to try and hide the smell of beer. Whiskey was my drink of choice and many a winter’s night I would leave the bottle out on a window ledge, go inside and open the window, retrieve the bottle and pour a large drink into a dirty old tea mug.
A few bad things started to happen as a result of drinking but the really frightening thing was that I could see far worse things on the near horizon. I reluctantly decided to stop but then I discovered that I could not. I did not know at the time that as an alcoholic, I had developed a mental obsession for alcohol and that as a result, I would always find a reason to drink. Neither did I know that once I took a drink, the body would get an overwhelming craving for more alcohol.
Being a private/prideful person, I figured that I could fix the problem on my own. I tried very hard but in the end, I had to admit failure. That was a frightening place to be, knowing that your life was out of control and that there was no hope for the future. When all else failed, I went to a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous and for the next three months, I went to a meeting six nights per week.
After a few months of going to AA meetings, I copied what had worked for those people who were a long time sober and happy with life. That was almost nine years ago and touch wood, I have not taken a drink since. If it works for someone like me, it will work for you too. All that you need is an honest desire to stop drinking.

God Bless
See, when I was little I must have had a kidney infection go unnoticed and that practically destroyed my right kidney and my left one has taken over. I have to be very careful because it will effect my blood pressure and raise it to emergency levels.
Id rather be here for a while seeing as I have a little boy now who needs me and is very attached to me, and a wonderful husband.
Good luck to you, we are here to help you and just listen.
