Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Now that the summer is here, the hot weather brings back memories of my beer drinking days. A cold beer seemed to be the answer to the heat.
That comes to mind and I wondered how others dealt with those thoughts and those cravings? What would be a good substitute? Has anyone tried the beer that has no alcohol in it?
Just wondering

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

Anyway, I mix various soft drinks. A good one I've found for me is fresh apple juice mixed with ginger beer (the soft drink, not the boozy kind, and not ginger ale).
That in a big glass of ice has a bit of bite.
Try to avoid the one beer though. You know it won't be enough!
Sometimes I think I have rid myself of a old bad habit only to see it come back and haunt me. I know what to do now, thanks!
Here is the science:
If you drink a bottle of beer instead of water when you are dehydrated, the cold water that makes up much of the bottle will provide some fluid replacement. So far, so good, but one effect of alcohol is that it inhibits the brain's release of ADH.
ADH, anti-diuretic hormone, acts in the opposite way that a diuretic medication works: It helps reduce or prevent water loss from the kidney. In addition, the brain's thirst center kicks in, which leads you to drink water or other fluids.
As a result of suppressing ADH, the kidneys no longer hold onto water as well as they did before you drank the beer. Soon, the kidneys are putting more water into the bladder rather than keeping it in the circulation, as it should under the circumstances.
A beer, glass of wine or other alcoholic beverage will not quench your thirst and is the last thing you should have on a hot summer day. Of course that is doubly true for all of here!

Thanks to everyone here who offered suggestions. This is what a support group is all about and this group is a perfect example. Doesn't matter what you call it, just people helping people and I say that for the non AA's who form an important part of this group.
There are many roads to take us to our destination so many different ones to explore, all leading us to the city of sobriety :)
God Bless!
