Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

For the last 5 days all I have done is sit around drink and chain smoke tobacco. I am seeing my doctor tomorrow to get valium so I can detox myself. I can't go to AA till next Thursday as I am waiting for my driving glasses. Noone seems to care, they seem to have all written me off as a hopeless drunk. That includes parents, children and other relatives. I've prepared some healthy meals but then can't eat them. I can't even wash the dishes. Have any other alcoholics been this bad? Looking forward to your responses.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

I can relate to what you have posted but I think you may need to shift your focus.
What your parents, children, other relatives and the wider community, including those here on DS think is not the most relevant point right now. What really matters is your own thinking, your own motivation and your own willingness to do whatever it takes in order to recover.
Detox is a good and essential starting point but it is only the first step of a journey. I have found that many people, including myself have been willing to get sober but very often, it will be done tomorrow or next week. For alcoholics who have had enough of drinking, the day for getting sober is TODAY.
If you were desperate for alcohol and had none in the house, would the absence of your driving glasses keep you from getting what you wanted? If you are desperate for sobriety you will get to an AA meeting tonight. Call up a friend, a family member or the AA General Service Office and organise transport. When you get there, get involved, no matter how much or how little you do. Remember that recovery from alcoholism is not just about going to a heap of meetings and listening to peoples drinking stories; the journey to recovery will take a change in your thinking and your outlook on life and that can come through the Twelve Steps with the help of a good sponsor.
I totally understand where you are at and how difficult it is to motivate yourself to do even the simple things you have described. However, there comes a time when you have to tell yourself that enough is enough, gather together your resources and just make a start, a bit like the man I knew who walked barefoot over a mountain to get his next drink.
The opinions of other people is their business. Your priority is to put all of your effort into doing whatever it takes to get sober. You deserve happiness, peace of mind and sobriety and you can have these things but it will take work on your part. Learn to love yourself.
During that time, if I would have allowed one negative thought of drinking, to enter my mind, It would have sabotaged my recovery. so I filled my time with AA meetings and I studied as much as I could about sobriety so I could keep myself aware of the dangers and pitfalls.
Having my Higher Power take care of the things I couldn't handle was extremely helpful to me especially in the beginning! I almost died but I am here today by the Grace of God and the 12 steps of AA!
You can do it too, we all get second chances in life and I really believe that when one is ready to finally quit then he/she quits!
God Bless,

Today is Day 5. I've managed to make it this far by putting sobriety first above everything. In saying that my boyfriend or friend with benefits got insulted and upset yesterday. I'm a different person when I don't drink, stronger and less pliable, more opionated or at least willing to share my point of view. I don't think he will last through the ups and downs of early sobriety. He doesn't understand how hard it is and the emotional side that comes out. I have to give up because of my stomach and high liver enzymes. But now I'm upset because he's upset and feel like drinking again. This Thursday I finally get my glasses and can drive to AA. Maybe it will help but today is Sunday and Thursday seems ages away. Just venting.
That was right about four years ago. The enzymes are now back to normal. It is very much possible for you to find a way to plug the jug.
Cmon get on the wagon
