Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Over the next two years she drank herself to a bottom she couldn't have dreamed possible, losing home, family, career and several teeth-- wife, mother, socialite, entrepteneur and pillar of the community to bag lady pushing a shopping cart through Sherwood Square in Westport, CT picking trash out of the cans-- all in two years flat. She had been sober a year and a half the second time around when I heard her speak, and the last thing she said was, "...and I'm still very shaky."
In other words, despite her long and happy sobriety, she still had no mental defense whatsoever against that first drink. Her case is unusual only in that she regained sobriety at all. Most who relapse after a long dry spell die within a few years after they resume drinking. As offensive as this stark fact may be to any of our personal convictions, that has been our experience.
I wasn't around DS when you originally posted this, so I'm glad somebody dug this up, as I've never seen it before. I picked out the 2 following quotes because they just struck me to the core as being SO TRUE:
"I GIVE YOU INSTANT GRATIFICATION ALL I ASK IN RETURN IS LONG-TERM SUFFERING.
I'VE ALWAYS BEEN THERE FOR YOU WHEN THINGS WERE GOING RIGHT, YOU INVITED ME BACK WHEN YOU SAID YOU DIDN'T DESERVE TO BE HAPPY AND I AGREED WITH YOU. TOGETHER WE WERE ABLE TO DESTROY YOUR LIFE."
Much appreciated!!
Still gives me chills.
I said then that I wanted to copy and print this then....well....it took me until today to do it! But I did it! lol
Peace! and so glad you drug this back up!
A lot of good friends just decided to move on in there journey.
Like I said I was chatting with someone last night and it was mentioned and she never heard of it before and she wanted to see it.
BTW, Its about damn time you printed it, I believe I remember you saying you was going to print it way back then!!!!
To Recovery
Who was it that always told me, 'Karen, don't quit 30 minutes before the miracle'> Hmmmm... (o;
Phil is my sponsor. (o; There was a lot going on with that mess that you speak of. Trust me...more than meets the eye. He was for sure trying to help, rather than out to get someone. He's not that kind of person. I've known him for a couple years now, so I really am talking from exp. Phil was trying to lead others to AA. The other person was trying to make oldies and newbies believe it was a cult. Sad.
Oh, and yeah, it is about damn time I got this printed. I tried for a while yesterday morning, but couldn't get my printer to work. Then I tried again last night............come to find out...............my printer wasn't plugged in! HA! The thing never even told me! lol
