Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Hi, my name is Jenny and I am an alcoholic. I've said that outloud many times in AA meetings. My problem drinking began in my early 20's. I first went to treatment 17 years ago, went back 12 years ago, have had maybe a total of what would add up to 4-5 years of sobriety during those 17 years. Most of it spent being a sometimes functional, sometimes barely functional alcoholic. I keep saying I need to get it under control again, 'tame the bitch' is how I say it in my head....and of course, I keep failing. It never feels like failing at the time, only feels like 'changing my mind', but it always feels like failure in the morning. I don't drinkTHAT much- not absurd amounts like Ive heard recounted in AA mtgs, but most of the time I do end up drinking my wine every evening, never more than one regular sized bottle (well very rarely more than that)...every damn evening. Every once in a while I go a day, a few times two days, once I can recall in the last year Ive gone 3 days. I keep saying- every day. I need to just quit. I try to play it down even to myself...I guess it hurts worse to not be in denial. I say things to myself like oh well, here I go again, no big deal, Ill quit tomorrow......a year later- ugh! This is the first time Ive tried reaching out in a long time. I cant stand AA meetings bc every damn time I try to go back, even when I drive across town, sure enough I see people I know- I do not like seeing those old-timers. I end up going straight to the damn store for some wine. Maybe when 5pm hits if I can go online & chat with someone, maybe that will help me get started staying sober...I dunno, doesnt seem like theres very many people here.. "0 online" it says. Maybe if someone sees this & u know of a larger more 'ever-present' community, you could give me the link??? Sure could use some help :) Thank you.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

I had to change my thinking. Until I did that I was stuck in the rut of daily drinking.
I had to find a replacement.

You can also send out friend requests, and write private messages to each other. I remember when I first came here years ago, I thought the same thing, until I made friends and got more involved with posting and writing journals.
I am curious if you have ever done the 12 steps of AA? I know some people who never have yet they stay sober but I remember needing to do those steps but what helped me more then that was when I was in detox, sitting in the waiting room, waiting to see the addiction doctor. I was thumbing through the self help books and magazines on the coffee table when I came across one titled, "The 12 steps for everyone who really wants them" which is the AA 12 steps adapted for EHA (Emotional Health Anonymous) It made sense to me since all addiction is triggered by underlying issues.
There is a spiritual part of AA and this has nothing to do with religion. Here is a guy who explains it quite well.:

Good luck on your road to recovery. Keep in touch. The path you take, might help someone else.
God Bless
This page is wonderful and while it might not seem 'active' it is when you get involved.
If you don't like the familiar faces at the meetings, are there meetings in a different town you could try? Might be worth the extra distance if you find what you're looking for.
I only drank about as much as you a day but I'm so glad I was able to stop before things got much worse. I have a little over 2.5 years sober now.
Glad to see you on the site and I hope you find something that works for you.
Follow the path that calls you.
