When I went to my first meeting, they shared my story. Identification was key to me coming back. After that, I began feeling hope that maybe I didn't have to die drunk. The key to staying sober and having a life worth living was the 12 Steps with guidance from a sponsor.

Great news! It is supportive being with a group of people who share our struggle and glad you had the courage to give it a try! I don't necessarily agree with every aspect of AA myself, but I'm always glad when I go to a meeting and hear others discuss their walk in sobriety, regardless of the topic. Congrats and continued success!

The real problem was me. I found in AA a way to change my thinking. Today I try to be a better person and therefore I don't have to go hide inside a bottle.

Meetings pretty much always help me. No one understands you as well as that group when it come to the obsession of alcohol. I am proud you went and it will get better just not instantly it takes a lot of hard work. Get a sponsor to have extra guidance and support working the steps.

Great news. It just keeps getting better the more you go.

Maybe consider reading the book for 30 minutes a day for a year, saying the serenity or the 3rd step prayer in the morning every day, asking someone to be your sponsor and talking to them daily, and asking God to provide opportunities for you to be unselfish among your fellows.

I remember that at my first meeting, I was in awe of these people sharing their lives, completely sober. I thought that, finally, if they could do that, I could too. it was hard for me to talk and share, sober, but eventually, it got better. I have a persistent judge in my personality that wants to go over and over everything I said to see how I could have done it better, or if it was OK. Eventually The Judge shut up, and realized that I don't have to be perfect, or even judged, that this is AA and it's all about people sharing. You never know where the growth will come from.

Now that you have started, keep the momentum going and those sober days will mount up.

It took me many tries just to get myself through the door or that first meeting, but when I finally did build up enough courage, it was a decision I never regretted. I remember it was a beginners meeting and there were many there with alot of years of sobriety sharing there difficult times along with their hopes and dreams, Some of the new ones spoke up and there were tears as their souls were healing. The wisdom I learned and the support I received, from those meetings helped me through some very difficult times. I am very greatful for them.
