Do we still need a sponser?

After the early part of sobriety when we need one the most?

Does someone with 4-5 years sobriety still need one?

I haven't talked to mine in a long time.

Not sure if I even need to now.

You are all right. I never formally went through the steps with a sponser, kinda on my own tbh and I asked my second sponser if he would go through the steps with me and he said he never did that either but would put me in touch with someone who could help me with that and a
I just smiled and said, nah! Thats ok!

I have all the sponsers I need right here :)

Rivalano not dissapointing to me..but I'm afraid you are missing out on alott. I wouldnt change working the steps with a sponsor for anything. It was an amazing experience and one I couldnt have had on my own. I needed this woman, who at the time had almost 28 years sobriety, to lead me through the steps. She and I did a second 4/5th step a few months ago. It also was amazing.

Whatever happened to"Our book is meant to be suggestive only'?."And"we realize that we know only a little?" Working the steps is optional not mandatory.

#20 - If you're not working the program of AA (the steps) then that's your business, of course. I would consider that being part of the fellowship than being a part of the program. This is a program of action. But if sitting in a chair once a week for an hour works for you, then that's groovy. :)

There are people who work the steps per se without a sponsor. I know people who take action in their recovery all the time. There are people who have sponsors whom"I do not" want what they have". I also have friends in recovery who do not and who have never had a sponsor who are attractive in what they've got.
Don't know how that happens but it happens. And yes, I have worked all 12 steps with a sponsor. I just choose not to do so with a sponsor anymore.

Pardon me if I'm wrong but didn't you relapse not long ago? I don't understand the 4-5 yrs sober question.

And the question "does someone 4-5 yrs sober need a sponsor?" Is it 4 yrs or 5? If the person who has 4-5 yrs sober has a crappy existence, I would think he needed something.

Like Okiyoe said, sounds like it's time for you to start at the beginning with meetings and sponsorship to guide you through the steps. You're always here and other boards trying to help others. It's time to start helping yourself.

    check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

     I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...
