Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

So i'm going on day 27 of no alcohol, yay! But my birthday is on Tuesday, and am going out with friends tomorrow night. We are going to dinner, and maybe then go across the street to a bar. I am not planning on drinking obviously, but I can already feel me bargaining with myself. "well, maybe if I just have a couple drinks," "I've been so good, if I just drink this weekend it will be okay" and so on and so on, it's almost subconsciously. I don't want to ruin my sobriety, and the craving for the alcohol isn't the issue it's just habitual to have a birthday drink, and and go to bars and such. Also many of the friends I am going out with don't know I quit drinking, I've only told my very close friend, and my sister. I know everyone recommends telling everyone but that's just not how I operate and I know it would cause me more stress in the long run having everyone know. So if anyone would just give me some words of strength, or there personal experiences of first birthdays going AF, it would be much appreciated!

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

You already seem to be trying to rationalize and justify drinking on your birthday. If you are going to live a life that's sober, you need to make every day a sober day, and make that thought unbreakable.
If you decide to go, then be prepared. Hopefully your sister and close friend who you told about your alcohol problem and how you had to quit will be there and support you. I don't know if you practice visualization, but for me, it was very powerful in getting through any situation.
Active visualization is a way to consciously influence the outcome of events by vividly picturing those outcomes in advance. This means that you play the situation out in your mind prior to the event. Imagine ordering club soda with lime, smiling happily and taking a sip when you get it. Say, "no thanks" when asked if you want a drink. The more detail you picture it, the more powerful visualization is. Play it through -- not just going out, but getting home, being happy with yourself for not drinking and having a good time, snuggling into bed, waking up n the more hangover and guilt free.
Consciously plan to not drink.
Congratulations on 27 days, hope you can keep it going.
God Bless
Happy Birthday to YOU!
Congrats on your first sober bday in 9 years!
You can go out to a bar or sit at a dinner table and drink anything but booze. I can go to any place and not drink because it no longer temping to me. Trust me: You are NOT missing out on any "life changing experience or good times", by not consuming alcohol.
Happy birthday.
