Jim, you're the exception then, because like they say, if that's not a reason to drink, what is... You're doing great work on yourself, and that's what your mom needs right now, peace of mind... I didn't get it until now, when someone we love is hurting, struggling, battling, or dying even, and we toss it about and jumble it up until it becomes OUR reason to say "fuck it" and trash our own lives... that's one of the highest forms of selfishness, because that takes away from the person actually doing the suffering and dying. You're giving your mom the gift of looking outside yourself, and into her heart, her fear, her pain... This is about her. It's hers. Godblessyou for being there and being whole, when she needs you most.

Jim, I am so sorry that things are worse than you had hoped. I have some understanding about the feelings that come up when our loved one decides not to have treatment to prolong their life - it was the same with my husband. So many mixed feelings and emotions.

I know that God has your back and will give you whatever you need to be able to support your mom through her final days. He has already given her the courage to make her decision about treatment and will continue to walk alongside her, ready to carry her when she needs it and the same is true for you all.

The fact that you have no desire to drink is proof of the power of God and that the promises are real and come true!

So sorry Jim. She sounds like a strong lady. Sometimes I think that generation was just made of better stuff. Lost my mom three years ago and she was strong about it too.

Prayers for you and your family, hope your mom is not suffering any. I have been through chemo, some people hate the stuff, it is really rough on you, so I can see why some ppl won't take it. I have very mixed feeling about taking it myself and it wasn't as evasive as the chemo for cancer, but it was very rough and still trying to recover from it. I pray you understand where your mother is coming from, take care.

oh jim, i went through all this with my dad. my father--even given his alcoholism--was my parent, supporter, i was number 1 daddy's girl. i've reconciled with mom but she was neglectful and abusive in my babyhood/childhood days as her mother was to her. i was terrified of her.

anyway, my father was diagnosed and we did no treatment. he was 72 then and he liked the quality of life he had then. believe it or not he still lived for 4 years. i say it was because he just went about the business of living plus he was chairman of the board at the pub and had to be there at 5p.m. to "conduct business." i loved and still love my father and i thank God (as nutty as i can be with my depression issues) that i-with my mother- cared for him at home in his dying. the diapering, the feeding, the washing was a privilege. it just seemed a gift to see my father out of this world when he saw me come in.

Please add Jim A. to your thoughts. He is the gentleman my mother lives with. Jim was married twice before he met my mom. Cancer took the first 2 from him as well. I know he is devastated.

I am so sorry.(you will get tired of hearing that)5 years ago I lost my mommy to lymphoma cancer. oh,how I wish they would of gave her a time line.cause I would have never let her go through what she did for a year.thats how long she suffered.It was the worst thing we have ever went through together.Honey it was just my moms time to go.It was gods plan.she was getting cemo and radiation and that shit just fks you up.cancer is a very tough thing to see someone go through and you my dear will be right there with her. going through it too. the best to the both of you and just please remember what will be,will be. put it in gods hands.thats really all you can do. my prayers are sent your way. please keep the faith.
