Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Its almost been 2 years since I quit drinking (1 year 8 months 29 days to be exact) and 2yrs and 4months since I quit smoking. It's been tough because I've had the urge to start drinking and smoking due to family issues. I had to move to my brothers house all because he wants someone to watch his son who was born 5 months ago (he doesn't want to hire a baby sitter and I had to move all my personal belongings like bed, clothes, t.v., computers, etc) 40 miles from my town. Sad part is he admitted he wpuld rather go to work then take care of his son simplt because he doesn't get a pay check for raising his child (my brother and his wife earn a combined income of 200k a year). That's where my temptation to drink comes from. Abd my father is still an alcoholic who is also a chronic complainer (he complains about everything everyday). Any suggestions on how I can continue not drinking?

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

So the question then becomes, how can I find happiness while doing this charity work for bro? I took up meditation which seemed to help me quite alot. There are lots of guided ones for free on You Tube and I think I have tried them all, . I have a few favorites that I go back to now and then. Sometimes I sit outside in the sun and read a good book or go for a long walk. There are many things we can do to manifest personal satisfaction and happiness,
You are a part of our family here and we love seeing you hang around. If you keep posting and making new friends here, you are bound to find meaning in life. What sobriety has taught me is that there are only two emotions in life. The first is Love and everything else is a call for love. I find love in the outdoors, in laughter, in friends and family, in my pets and in my garden which I can't wait to plant. I have two older sisters who are very well off but I don't focus on how much money they have, I live on a pension and enjoy my solitude very much.
Congratulations on almost 2 years of sobriety. I am sure you will have many more years of sobriety, :)
The serenity prayer is a very powerful prayer and if you get in a bind, say it over and over again.
Don't be a stranger. You have a story that needs to be told. Many will identify and will be helped.
Hang in there. Life will get better.
God Bless
It's going to be 2 or 3 years before I go back to my town. Maybe the time will go faster then I think
