Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

My family neglecting me was actually a Blessing when I look back because it motivated me to reach out and get the help I needed.. While in treatment, I saw a very clear picture of what my drinking was doing to my family and I never, ever want to cause them that kind of emotional pain again!. My family was hurting because they were watching me commit a slow suicide with the bottle, like my mother did and like my father did, and like many other friends did.
For me, drinking wasn't a need, I was self medicating for depression and anxiety and that was why I needed help to get sober. There was no way I could have done it without help.
That was 11 years ago. Rehab, counseling, and AA saved my life and today I have a great life, living sober and appreciating family friends and business associates!
God Bless
It took alot of work in the beginning with the first few months being the most difficult as my newfound sobriety was still in a fragile state but looking back on it now, it was well worth the effort!
If you want to work toward making a better relationship between you and your family and do everything it takes to get sober, then I can assure you, all the angels in Heaven will be helping you but if you would rather close the door to that, and keep drinking, while wallowing in self pity, then many will suffer as a result.
I hope you can stay sober long enough to re examine your priorities in life.
This is almost an exact copy of a reply someone sent to me, at a time when I was still in denial over my addiction and wondering why my luck was so bad... I did not listen at the time but I suffered horribly with even more bad luck for the next few years before I came to the conclusion that I had had enough. That was when I drove myself to detox and asked to be admitted. That was when my luck began to change for the better and continues to do so.
You have the ability to have a happy sober life. You just have to work for it. There are many of us willing to help but you can't be afraid to ask.
God Bless .
But way more important you surely do not want to be sitting around drinking all day.?? You surely want a better life for yourself?
Changing yourself and rebuilding relationships can take so much time but it's so worth trying to rebuild them rather than just letting it all go.
You have to take the first step, and once you do that then take the 2nd and then the 3rd.
It's a journey but don't give up on everything.
